I was planning on dropping my motor in tomorrow...having issues already...

First, I searched...

This is the first time ive ever done a timing belt.

I followed the TSRM step by step.

So... I installed the new timing belt, making sure all marks matched up, then installed the tensioner and pull the pin.

All the timing marks are lining up..

Then after I rotate the crank 2 rotations as it says the marks are WAY off.

First try: cam marks were on but the crank mark was off by like an inch.

Second try: crank is set to '0' but TDC on the cams is at the bottom instead of the top...WAY OFF..

What am I doing wrong?!!!

Thanks for the help

Well I spun it once more(3 revolutions) and this is what happened...

Crank pulley is at 0
intake cam is at TDC
Exhaust is 1 tooth off too the left..

Is this okay?

I learned when changing my timing belt today, that for every 2 rotations of the crankshaft, the camshafts will rotate once. So when you line everything up (1st cyl at TDC, and crank at 0) rotate that crank in 360 degrees, the cam markings will be on the bottom (not where the should be), so infact you must rotate that crank 720 degrees (2 full rotations) to get the cam gears to line up again (1st Cyl @ TDC) I hope this makes some sense to you, I am very new to this aswel so hopefully someone else chirps in.

Sometimes the crank pulley/dampner spins and the tdc mark on it may not be tdc. Pull #1 plug and insert chopstick or whatever, as you turn the engine, you'll see (as the stick rises/stops) where tdc really is. good luck.
