This spring im going to be hitting up the drag strip once again in my 87 turbo. Its a local track and its only a 1/8th mile long. Im curious on if using an NA lsd would help me shave some time off runs? Going from 3.73 to 4.30 (correct me if im wrong) would be a substantial drop in gearing thats for sure. But my dilema is that will this gearing be too short between shifts for a turbo car? :aigo:
Ill be running 2.5 hard pipes, spearco replica, 57 trim at 17psi + supporting mods, full turbo back 3"(no cats) and maft-pro. <- might help with some feedback.
If someone with some knowledge on this could throw in some feedback that would be awesome.

For an 1/8 mile track....it would help

Im hoping so. There will be an RB powered 240sx that I would like to lay a whoopin on. I need all the help I can get. Maybe bigger turbo yet and some c16 :evil2:

The gears will be too short imo. You'll be at the top of 4th gear by like 110mph. Your car being an 87 would have a 3.91 rear gear, not a 3.73 (thats 89+).

I was thinking about the same thing but from the other side.... I have an 89 n/a, and I am swapping in a 2jz-ge-t, should I be looking into changing that gear? It will be mostly a street car, but it will still get a decent amount time at the track, which is a 1/4 mile btw.

great for 8th mile, not good for top speed. city driving with lights every block can be a pain in the dick because your always shifting. highway can suck too youll be spinning a little bit higher rpm's at speed.

but if you can hook itll be great for 8th mile.

cus with the 3.73 you will be about half way through 4th anyway so why not be all the way through it? it will prolly drop your time .2 id be willing to bet....maybe more...going 3.73 to the 4.30s

When I had 4.30s it "felt" a lot faster. But 1st gear went by so fast it was pretty much useless and 2nd wasn't much better.... I swapped to 3.73s and am happy with highway cruising but I dunno about drag racing. I'd imagine for 1/8 mile it would net you faster times to go with 4.30s though.

you better smoke that 240!!

shouldnt have a problem with whatever gears you have.... RB's are not that fast the avg. is about 350-400 to the wheels, pretty good but their so lite that they just sit and spin, supra should just eat that thing up!!!

4.30 good for track not freeway.

same here but i prolly dont wrap the gears out nearly as fast as you and your huffing snail. :biglaugh:

I dont mind shifting all the time most of my driving is in the city so cruise is either 3rd @ 3k at about 45-50 or 4th.

now id hate to have our dakotas rear gear......4.56's gah!

Not when you're shifting 5th in the 1/4.

you have to be going over 110 to do that though....most on this site dont....but the ones that do well they need the 3.73s..haha

Read the thread, a 57 trim ct will go 110+ in the quarter.

Get the diff AND sticky tires. You will beat the 240

I now have a 4.30 diff in my plan for the 1/8th drag :icon_bigg. I will swap diffs for the drags, then back once theyr done. Any help I can get for this event thats actually worth it is great. On this same track last year, i was just shifting into 3rd gear at the end. (if i remeber corretly). So hopefully I will be close to the end of third with this mod.
Anyone have any suggestions for some sticky rears? Last year I ran 45/225ZR17 Avon ZZR'z. Those things deffenatily hooked up well even being a narrower and hard rubber. With having stock suspension, it sqwats when I launch hard. Alot of weight transfer onto the rear thats forsure.
