Ok enough of some of my fun days. Wish me luck. I'm debating on the rebuild of my 7mgte or just do a complete 1jz swap. Hard decision as I'm holding on to the supra for awhile. Any input would be nice.

Ok... I've been quoted 2600.00 for a complete 1jz swap. drop, wire and go. Cheaper then getting the 7mgte rebuild. Only issue is I'm in cali and my brother is pushing me away for the fact that 1jz isn't smog legal. DAME. What to do?

So what its not smogable? You gonna listen to the government that decided for you what you can and can't drive? Dude, seriously, do some research, do you honestly believe that you gonna be the first guy who drives 1jz in California? its just not a topic for a forum discussion.

the 1jz makes good power stock and its as reliable as the 7mgte if taken care of

WOW. There is a reason that there is smog (60 years of coal and carbon burning... I wonder why?). Idiots blocking the EGR off on any vehicle is breaking the air and board laws. That is not one my worries and I know that there are other guys out there with 1jz, 18c5,4g63t,3sge, sr20det, ect. The problem lies on that we can prepare for the future and expect only good outcomes. I don't want to be doing swaps after swaps if I do in fact have an illegal motor when tickted. I wouldn't even think about 1jz if I didn't know anything about the outcome (I have used many JDM motors without emission devices).

I'm not arguing about smog, but my parents and family is. We don't have under the table connections:sarcasm: like many out there. I want the 1jz for reliability... not HP monster but the fact to pass any only test stations with flying colors. I will make my decision based on my technical learning and reading on both motors. I won't just jump to conclusion based on someone telling me to research more cause others have done it. <--doesn't prove anything but the fact that they will try to evade the test only station at any cost.

You need to talk to some people in cali who have 1jz swapped cars.

Just hearing you say "illegal engine" makes me think of fast & furious.
If you want ultimate DD reliability then yes, you do want a 1JZ.
