Well, here are a few of the many pictures I have of the complete stripping of my shell. As you can see, there was a decent amount of rust on it, around the windshield, drivers floor, and rear end. The car was from Quebec which justifies all the rust. The only parts left on the car are the door-open sensors which my body guy will remove. Enough talking, here are some before shots:

WOW is all i was saying looking at the pics, I also said I would have gotten rid of it and got one in better condition. Great progress so far. Good luck with it. Keep the thread updated.

Getting rid of the car would have been simple, however getting a rust free shell is nearly impossible up here, and those that are in nice shape carry a hefty price tag. Even still, there are no guarantees that there is not rust lurking somewhere below. The entire body work and paint job will run me about $4500 canadian plus about $1000 in body parts (parts car, outer fender wells new from toyota, rear quarters from rust free vehicles in the US). This way I end up with a perfect shell with no hidden surprises. It is a fun project, too bad I am travelling through Australia right now (yeah...too bad for me :)) and the only way i can see the progress is through pictures.

This car is actually a project between my dad and I, we're hoping the end result is basically a new car. Basically every single part of the car will be re-furbished or replaced.

You crazy Canadian :)

Yeah, getting a rust free mk3 in Alberta would be damn near impossible. Keep up the good work (you too dad!).

Wow!
Good to know I'm not the only one crazy enough to try to restore a messy car like that!
I'm about in the same spot I think. I was trying to get mine all welded up and painted before winter but it's too cold out to paint now, so it's waiting until spring. I was saving all my pictures for when it's together and painted though, as I didn't want to have to listen to criticism for starting with such a rusty shell, and it's more of a surprise that way. :)
Anyways, really nice job, I know how much work it is!

It's funny that you wrote "Rusty 89"
Ever since I bought the car and drove it, before I decided to restore it and rebuild, I've used "rusty89supra" as my moniker in online games.

cut out the cancer

basically the entire rear end of the car was replaced - brand new outer fender wells and rear quarter panels from a rust free car. I cut the driver side floor pan out of my parts car which was rust free. The only areas not cut off another car was the top of the windshield - and the rust was chemically eliminated from there.

All I have to say is wow. Your dad rocks :) I look forward to seeing some more pictures of this thing.

Do you plan on doing any more work engine wise etc? With that type of attention to detail, you could build up one slick (and shiney!) looking supra.
