my '88 mkIII project!

well. i just noticed theres a specific area for projects/builds. this site just gets better and better! lol. well i picked up an '88 mkIII a couple months back. its rusty. its red. it needs ALOT of work. but im determined to kick rust's ass. for now i shall nickname it the "rusty red rocket" though it currently doesnt run- (blown turbo) in about 2 weeks im getting some funding (aka a loan) and the project will get under way. first step will be to take a trip down to TN to get some parts from a fellow member, then after that comes a 500whp setup. not completely sure on the details yet, and right now i dont have pics, but never fear. pics of my POS turned SEX are soon to come. :icon_bigg

but anyway. as of when i picked up the car it had the following mods.
HKS F-CON, HKS boost controller (manual), HKS boost gauge, HKS SMF intake, and an HKS TEMS controller. it might have a couple other little things, but thats all i know of. within the next 2/3 weeks ill be doing my homework and going on a shopping spree. probably picking up either a set of 550cc's or 680cc's, a walbro 255lph pump, getting custom IC piping, maybe an exhaust, and of course- a bigger turbo, either a ct26 60-1, a LIPP BOSS 68trim or a turboconcepts 70trim.
im a noob to the supra world, so any tips/help/advice/constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated!

pics will probably be up later tonight.

If the car is really rusty, its best to just strip it down to the chassis and take care of that now! Oh man is it a lot of work......

Good luck with your project and get pics up soon!

^ good point. well. ill have about 8k to work with, so i should be able to do quite a bit on both ends. lol

Depends on your plans for the motor.. Most common and very noticeable upgrades.. Intake, exhast etc.. will be doable and will open the car up a bit. But to make a jump to the 450-500whp will be a little costly.. Good luck though.. I am in the process of a build right now and it's not cheap by any means... But 8K doesn't make for a bad car payment!!! :biglaugh:

well. ive been quite a slacker on pics. startin to feel bad about it. lol, ill probably post pics tonight... installing an AGP wastegate on my friend's SRT-whore, then taking off the stock turbo cause my serbian friend wants to look at it... cause he's considering rebuilding it/buying one and uh. putting it on his uh. turbo... festiva. yeah.

well. i just got my loan yesterday. bastards only approved me for 6k, not 8, so im probably just gonna shoot for 400whp *sigh* weak sauce. i just purchased an upgraded ct26 via e-gay. it was used with about 10k miles, 300 bucks! lol. turbine wheel looks stock, but has about a 15 degree clip on it, the compressor wheel looks like its the same size as a 60-1... i dunno how it'll work out, but it should get here in about a week i hope... also ordered an HKS SSQV kit, and im contemplating ordering a BIC dp with divorced wastegate dump tube sometime later tonight... and im probably getting a 3" dp-back exhaust made at a local shop if i can...
in other news. i dunno. i want an HKS FCD. cause i dont think i have one. i have an F-CON though, lol. i think im gonna order a walbro 255lph pump later too... some new brake lines...
looking into a new intercooler. i have a FMIC thats 21x9x3 core, but its got inlet and outlet on opposite sides... kinda inconvenient, might just get a less-cheap intercooler...

tips anybody? lol

1. Get the BIC DDP
2. Buy a good catback, not a crush bent one built at a muffler shop
3. Do your homework on the FCD.......never heard anything good on them, maybe some can help on this.
4.SEARCH IS YOUR FRIEND

5. Get them pictures posted
