--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Build thread:

Over the last 2 years I got my 1991 Supra, blew the headgasket on the 7M for the 2nd time, swapped in a 2JZ, converted to a single T04R turbo, and swapped from an auto to an R154.

Here's a little video of the buildup with the car in action.

.

And another with just driving and no music, slightly different footage too:

.

Mods as of Jan 1st, 2008:
Aristo 2JZ-GTE
R154
7M oil pressure sender conversion
T04R turbo, 4" in, 2.5" out, .81 A/R, 3" v-band exhaust, polished compressor housing
Ebay SS T4 manifold
50mm wastegate
SSQV BOV
12x24x3 FMIC, 2.5" from turbo to IC, 3" from IC to TB
4" polished intake, large 4" K&N filter
Custom 3" downpipe > high-flow cat > HKS Sport 3" catback
USDM2JZ-GTE water pump, FAL210 fans
1pc lightened driveshaft
Battery relocation using Odyssey PC680 dry-cell battery

However, after all this, my plans for the car have changed a little. Instead of throwing lots of money at big fuel system, I decided that I'd rather put it into other stuff like suspension. And while the reponse on this turbo is amazing, the way it hits is interesting when trying to gently power out of a turn.

So far I have converted back to twin-turbos and have removed all the sequencial valving for a true twin-turbo setup without the restrictions of the sequencial setup.

I had originally removed the A/C when doing the 2JZ swap, but I recently reinstalled the A/C using the Aristo compressor, 7M top plate and all A70 A/C lines and components.

The goal is to have 450-500whp on modified USDM twins, a stock looking engine bay, and a suspension and chassis setup competitive in auto-cross or on a road course, while retaining the comfort and reliability of a street car.

Lemme Know when and Where you take your head into a machine shop. :)

I need to send mine in and maybe we can talk them down if we send two in. ;)

There's a machine shop in (the city of) Auburn which is closer to me called Moore's Engine Machine that is supposed to have a really good head surfacing machine. I'll have the head off within the next week or so, and I'll start looking into the machine shops and let you know.

Here's a little recap of my TTC twins install back in May:

Beginning the swap: T04R still installed.

No more T04R.

It's so dirty! :(

p1194561_2.jpg

The oil return line was leaking, so I have some extra cleaning to do.

p1194561_3.jpg

Only the best from Toyota!

p1194561_4.jpg

Had to yank the stock chacoal canister as it would interfere with the rear turbo.

p1194561_5.jpg

Looks like I need to do some pounding... :(

After pounding:

Used a shorter stud laying around that wouldn't interfere with the EGT probe:

p1194561_10.jpg

Heat shield installed, freshly painted with new hardware that won't rust and seize.

p1194561_11.jpg

Cutout for the EGT probe.

p1194561_12.jpg

Here's the rear turbo outlet pipe, all clean with the guts removed. I drilled out the hole and plugged it with a 1/2" freeze plug. I don't have pics, but I also removed the valving from the exhaust y-pipe. Freeze plugs won't work there, so I used a tapered sleeve that I made out of exhaust piping and pressed it into the inside of the ceramic sleeve to plug the holes.

Mmm, see how clean it is?

p1194561_14.jpg

And this is how: Etching mag cleaner. Dissolves the stained outer layer and removes corrosion and oxidation.

p1194561_15.jpg

And this is why I had to do a little grinding:

p1194561_16.jpg

All pipes cleaned and installed with my custom intake and piping and there you have it!

p1194561_17.jpg

It needs caps for the stock bypass valve and an ISC hose and the intake side is done.

Well I started tearing the car apart, a few minutes Sunday after work and then a little more yesterday.

And the parts pile grows!

In addition to what's been taken off, I also have some other goodies waiting to be installed:
-TEIN HR coilovers w/ pillow ball mounts (Used, but appear to be in good condition. Couldn't pass them up for $100. :D)
-Some JZA70 fenders with bubble sidemarkers
-JDM tail lights (after repaint)

Normally my engine pulling strategy is to remove as little as possible in order to get the engine out. This time I'm removing everything, to make pulling the engine easier and to prep for repainting the bay. Otherwise I'd probably have it out by now. :)

Remaining is to disconnect the driveshaft, powersteering lines, fuel lines, and unbolt A/C compressor. Then it's just removing the wiring harness and aluminum turbo piping and the engine should be ready to slide out.

Did I miss it some were why are you tearing the engine down?

Jeremy

Oh, it's in my to-do's in the 1st post, but I forgot to mention it anywhere else. The headgasket has a very slight leak combustion chamber to water jacket. I'm pulling the engine out and changing the headgasket with it on a stand while cleaning up/repainting the engine bay, removing the ABS, rebuilding the transmission, changing the clutch, and making a few changes to the wiring.
