Mobil1 european oils. Which is better?

It's oil changing time again. And this time I want to try something different. I'm choosing between these three:

Which one would you recommend for a supra according to those spec. sheets? Car has around 150k miles. Is driven no more then 3000miles till next oil change and i'm using OEM toyota oil filters. Engine usually "eats" 0.5 liter per 1000miles.

You're smart to change from the 5W-50

Of the 3 oils, I would use the 5W-30 for a couple of reasons...it is the only API/ACEA rated oil of the 3 listed. It has very good cold flow viscosity and is thicker at ops temp than most 30W oils you see. It is almost identical to German Castrol in this respect. It has a very low pour point typical of a synthetic (Grp IV) base stock. Just a guess, but since this is being marketed as a "Emission System Protection" oil it likely contains little if any ZDDP as an anti-wear additive. This version of Mobil 1 5W-30 is very different that what's available in the US...I'd like to see more of what's in the additive pack for this oil

This is the same as German Castrol
Same characteristics viscosity wise as the Mobil 5W-30, but a better additive pack.

BTW - you can take Mobil 1 to the 5000 mile point with no problem. If you can source Wix or PureOne filters, those would be a better choice.

Thank you again JDub Yes, that's why I asked. Well, 0w-40 also has API SM/SL/SJ/CF but wouldnt 0w40 oil be better at cold starts? As I have read thats where 90% of wear happens

Yes, EDGE is available, just very hard to source (mainly 10w60 available). And almost all oils which have lower numbers then Xw40 are very very very hard to source here as most people still think that the higher the number - the better

By the way, I was using Castrol RS/EDGE 10w60 before, then stepped down to 5w50.

This is a good example why you can't completely trust the numbers on the bottle
And, you are correct that the most wear on an engine is at cold start.

The 0W-40 has a viscosity of 78.3 cst at 40 deg C...the 5W-30 has a viscosity of 72.8 cst at the same temp. The 5W-30 is actually thinner "cold" than the 0W-40....these number go up as the oil gets colder, the 0W-40 will show the larger increase.

On the "hot" side the 0W-40 has a viscosity of 14.0 cst at 100 deg C and the 5W-30 has a viscosity of 12.1 cst. This puts the 5W-30 awfully close to the viscosity of the 0W-40 at ops temp.

Plus, since the 0W-40 has a wider viscosity range, that means there are more viscosity improvers in the oil to make the stated grade...by volume, there is less base stock oil. You can see this by looking at the viscosity index...the 0W-40 VI is 186...the 5-30 VI is 164.

I see what you're saying on the API/ACEA ratings...you are correct. The way Mobil did the spec sheets threw me off
I also want to compliment you on the way you asked this question...you took the time to dig up the spec sheets. That makes it really easy for me and you've got a good idea of what the heck I'm talking about!

So, I made my mind, and tomorrow I'll buy myself a nice set of two 5ltr bottles of 5w-30.

Now the only problem is to find a proper filter. As "the best" filter available on the market is OEM from Toyota. All other from Framm, FIAM and so on are total crap.

If they are Denso (made in Japan), they are pretty good...if they are the ones from Thailand, they aren't any better than a cheap Fram. If you have NO OTHER CHOICE...the Fram Extra Guard or X2 filters are the best they make.

I've seen that thread. Sad but none of those filters are being imported here. And not even Fram Extra Guard... Just a cheap knock-off versions of the same Fram.
Is part number different for Denso filter and for Thailand? I've never paid any attention to where they ware made when I bought them from local stealership
