I had been thinking about doing that swap for quite some time. Mainly to piss off my bimmer buddies lol. Pretty damn cool! And thank god its a clone. I would personally close handed slap the person who could do that to a real E30 M3.

Nice car but the heavy 7m throws off the balance. Thank god its a clone as well :) I am building one (a clone) but complete with the m3 rear window, trunk, etc and a SR20 :) Lightweight 4 cylinder that can put down 350whp in a 2700lb E30= :) It may even be faster than my mk3 ;)

back to the ls1 comment, correct me if im wrong but the 7mgte only weighs bout 30-40 lbs more as said wiki. sure the ls1 comes with more power from the start but it also cost alot more. 7m is cheap and provides plenty of power

Hmm. That's allot to consider. I wonder if anyone has tried a 7m in a E34 5 series. I bet it would handle the extra weight perfectly.

Not necessary to put a 7m in it.
Those M50 or even the M30 are great engines to put a turbo on.

meh, put a ls1 in it, 200 lbs lighter than the 7m and it's v8 power @ over 350 hp at the wheels before even doing anything to it. Drop in a cam, 400 hp add a tune, 470hp. and for less than you will spend getting a 4 cylinder to 300hp.

Bull a ls1 out of a camaro is rated at 305 crank get one from a vette and u get 350 crank. A good friend with a ls1 just made 478 whp from a lingifelter 427 stroker aftermarket heads no porting. With a ls7 race only cam. We are talking a 20 thousand dollar build. Sure the block can handle 1000whp but its not going to get even close without some kind of forced induction. Its like saying hey throw in a 2j with a aftermarket turbo and tada u have got yourself a 1000whp

Having a block that can handle over a 1000hp is not a waste of money and forced induction is in the near future. The only diffrence on a ls6 block is some breather holes for better crank case breathing. 5000 in mods is a far cry from a stock ls1 with a bump stick and a tuner, considering this guy probably got deals on everything because he work at a shop (i have work at a tuner shop and know how the hook ups work). Anyways my point being made that 3k to 5k for the swap then another 5k to reach 470whp is not cheap! My 7m made 489 on a to4e 60trim turbo. and it cost less then 4k in mods!
