Engine Mechanic huh..

You will enjoy yourself at the great base of Sheppard AFB, TX after you graduate. lol. But seriously it is not that bad. You will be considered an Aircraft Specialist. I was a 2A6X6 (Aircraft Electronic and Environmental Systems Specialist) troop and it wasn't that bad.

When you graduate, lemme know about the Basic Training experience.(training squadron, the "fun", having to cut the grass with scissors *but I think that was just us :(* lol.

And I can tell you what to look forward to at Sheppard...

You have to be enrolled "full time" to get the MGIB. What most of my friends do is let the AF pay for it while they are active duty. Then if they get out, they will get a student loan to pay for school and get the MGIB check every month to live off. Then pay back the student loan later.
You don't have to be enrolled full time in order to get the GI Bill. It is prorated though for number of hours taken. And I'm glad I was in when TA was 100%. I heard they dropped it down to 75% again..

Supposedly they've exstended warrior week to 2 weeks. But I'm not sure as to the Physical requirements. Which brings up a question for you guys that are in. What are the physical requirements for the air force? I'd like to know so I have a base line of where I need to be physically.

Are you serious...they extended it. WTF for? It seemed to long to begin with. Just don't be one to get caught going to the female side..

<<<almost got caught but it was so worth it....

Even though I'm not in anymore, the physical requirements were just a score of 70 on the PT test but in basic, they don't go off points but you have to pass the bare minimum of each segment (pushups, situps, run time, and sometimes situps). The requirements are on the internet..somewhere

Found the requirements on the AF website.
1.The minimum (Liberator) is 1.5 miles in 11:55, 45 push-ups in 1 min, 50 sit-ups in 1 min, 0 pull-ups in 1 min.
2.Second level (Thunderbolt) 1.5m in 9:30min, 55 push-ups, 60 sit-ups, 5 pull-ups.
3.The top level (Warhawk) is 1.5m in 8:55min, 65 Push-ups, 70 sit-ups, and 10 pull-ups.
I'm shooting for warhawk.

If you're in college and interested in the USAF you should go the AFROTC route. You can talk to Active Duty officers and shadow some of them during the summer to see what it's really like in the USAF. Depending on how many years you have left in school (which would determine how long you'd be in the program), you would have at least one commitment free year to experience it all. PM me if you want to know about it.

But in about 3 weeks I'll be commissioned as a 2Lt that gets to fly for a living and all I had to do was tolerate a couple of hours of nonsense a week (ROTC) along with my regular classes ... doesn't get much better than that.

So do any of you have any suggestions for getting my weight down? I'll be honest I weigh between 212-220. I'm not sure about my bfp. I think I have a better chance of getting my bfp down before my weight. I'm just looking for suggestions.

How tall are you? I'm 6'1'' at 215 lbs. But, I can pass my PT test no problem. Mostly muscle though. Some extra weight around the waist though.

I'd suggest cutting sugar and fatty foods out. And running or doing calastenics (sp?). Drink plenty of water as well.

Best of luck to you man.

But if you do have muscle, they take that into consideration. They said that I was overweight but I was 5'5, 173lbs (in my hey day) but they knew it was muscle and my waist was still 31". Waist measurements is like 30 points I think. I may be wrong though
