well there you have it, i need to know, a friend told me no because the oven temps (400 degrees) are too intense and will ruin them, does anyone know???

well its like when you powder coat brake calipers, you have to disassemble them... its not like you can just toss them in the oven as is. they need to be taken apart, cleaned really good, and then coated, and then baked.

its really not that hard to do... but i just spray painted mine and i have no issues with my TB... but i did take off the TPS and tape over that, and some of the other holes/stuff.

well you need to pull the TB plate out, pull the shaft, the seals, the spring mechanism... it has to be a BARE TB in order to be powder coated... the stuff is THICK, its not like spray paint. and the 400 degree oven will cook the rubber/non metal pieces in the TB if there not removed.

you could try it at lower temp's.heat the part at 250*,then shoot it while it's warm.toss it back in the oven at 250 again.it will be enough heat to make the powder flow out.the part won't be as durable as soomthing that is baked at 400* though.it's not like the tb get's much abuse anyway's.the bigger problem will be prepping the part before powder.even if i have a nice new clean part,i like to media blast it.in my experiance it bond's better.

thats a waste of time i think.... if your going to half ass the powder, then just use spray paint. it holds great, and my engine heat baked my stuff on... only way i see aluminum is if it gets chipped by a screwdriver, or some other way.

I do my own powder coating at home. needless to say anything i can get my hands on has been powder coated. the TB was one of the first to go. Use high temp tape and block off the intake opening and the entire back section what the gasket covers, (masking tape works also). take off the TPS and cut a piece of tape over that. put some tape around the ports to keep from flowing in. Powder it.. bake it.. works fine. i've had mine on for 2000+ miles no problems.

i can have a part bolted back on the car before your paint will dry:)

wanna bet? by the time you get your part even cleaned good enough for powder coating, i'll have my paint on and in the sun. the stuff i use dries fast. and i dont need to have a 100% clean surface to paint on.

not to mention i didnt have to disassemble anything... the springs? yeah i painted those. the little lever things? painted those too.

my last engine i had stuff powder coated and i LOVE it. but the cost was killin me... even with my discount i get because i bring them tons of business.
only problem i've had with spray paint is that its wayyyyyy easier to chip. and it seems to attract dust more too....

the funny part is you said why half ass it to me.i meant painting it nice, not spray bombing it.if you had both piece's allready clean, the powder would be ready to bolt on faster.
i was just mentioning to the thread starter it could be done without taking the tb appart.i wasn't looking to start an arguement with anybody
i like to polish all my tb for my car anyway's,which i do take it appart to do.

not an argument, just opinions on how you should do things... everybody doesnt do the same things.

the spray paint works for me as it was just meant to look nice.

but if i already had all the parts blasted/acid dipped/chemical cleaned, i would powder everything i could get my hands on.

Polished TB > powder coated/painted TB

Painted engine parts (ie TB, Intake Manifold) look dumb imo. Unless they're painted with aluminum paint.
