I want some ideas and opinions on an xbox game I am making.

So I have been working on my third xbox live game for a while now. I had to take a break from it for a little while and am looking at getting back to it some time soon. Currently I have a few projects going on and have to finish my car and my wifes car before getting back to the game but here is the rundown.

The game is a top down 360 ship shooter game. The setup I was going to make was to have an entire large planet that is completely destructible. You have to blow away the planet part by part to get to the core to destroy the core. Enemies spawn from factories and there are some that are set up around the planet from the start. As the player kills enemies you gain experience and as your levels increase so do all of your weapons, mostly just adding more and more projectiles to each shot. The weapons get a little crazy as the spread gun a full level will shoot 25 bullets at once in all directions and you can fire twice a second.

That many bullets firing at that speed makes for a lot of bullets to track and they have to be checked for collision with all pieces that make up the planet. So say there are 100 bullets on screen that need to be tracked (there can be a lot more than that), and 25,000 planet parts that makes for 2,500,000 checks that have to be done at 30 times per second. That is too much for the xbox to handle. Really the code is optimized to it breaks the stuff up so the bullets only have to check the items in its relative area but its still a good bit of checking going on.

So I am going to have to go a different route with the game and was wanting to get some ideas of what aspects of a game you all thing would make the game fun and something worth paying $5 for, really its selling for $1 but I want to make at least a $5 game and sell it for $1.

Here are some videos of the game, all of this is just test of weapons and the planet and stuff but it will give an idea for the feel of it. I am looking at salvaging as much code as possible so its not going to become a platformer or FPS or anything but lets hear some ideas about a top down ship game and weapons setups and different stuff.
