Anyone have any experience with Volvo's? More specifically a Volvo 960, 1995, 6cyl, auto, 135,000 miles.

My current DD, 91 Ford Explorer, has nearly 200,000 miles and runs strong but is cosmetically on its last leg.

I am a CPA, so I need something that appears somewhat professional and decent. But it has to be reliable, and easy on gas. I can work on it, so labor is not a problem and I am sure that parts are expensive, but so is Toyota.

Anyhow, any other ideas? I only want spend about 5k. (house payment, baby on the way, wife may quit work or only work part-time.)

Mid 90' Diesel Mercedes ? Mmm out of budget around $9000 USD for these
For $5000 your looking at cars from the early mid 90s for any decent model like lexus or mercedes. These will have 1000 miles. I would seriously consider the Merc diesel, they last forever.

i agree man those merceds diesels are the best. and for one thing you can pretty much walk away from any kinda accident. i dated a girl who was hit head on at like 50 in that car and was able to walk away from it with minor bruises and some whiplash

VOLVOS blow! My parents drive them and they are always in the shop. Most of them are inline 5 cylinders which is weird and they are super expensive and the turbos suck. Plus on top of that the electrical is screwed.

My current three choices are:

Mid 90's BMW
Mid 90's MBZ
Mid 90's Volvo

Or possibly a Tacoma - mid to late 90's. The tacoma is not as good on gas though.

agreed, my uncle has a 91 diesel benz wit about 196'000 and it is still an awesome car... my moms friend has a volvo turbo not sure on the model but they are always breaking something small and you pay BIG for it

none of those are particularly good on gas... if that's a requirement, you might want to look at like an avalon or something.

Good on gas being 20 and mid to high 20's on the freeway. I can't stand the sedans from Chevy, Ford, Toyota, Nissan.

I know MBZ's are very good, but, I want something that I can park outside, otherwise, I will have to park the Supra outside.:nono:

My parents have a 94 Volvo 960 special edition with 264k on the odometer and still runs find today we had it since it had about 1995 with 22k on it and haven't had ne problems out of it yet. That's what I usually drive when the supra has to go in the shop. Volvo's are good cars at least the ones that were made by Volvo not the ones with the new body style made by Ford. My dad asked the head volvo tech and he told him if wanted the same ride and quality as the 94 960 he needs to go and buy a BMW or Benz.

My mom had a 85(86?) volvo 240 dl wagon and it ran forever. I think it finally died with 260 something thousand on it. My grandparents also had 85 mb 500 sel that ran for well over 250k. They get new mercedes every year, but they kept that one because they loved it so much and he says that every new one he has gotten since isn't made nearly as well as his old one(that and customer service isn't too good for mb anymore he says). As for mid 90's volvos I am not sure how reliable those are, but I know the 80's ran damn strong.
