So I bought this parts car with a "rare hks 51mm turbo" on it. I have no reason not to believe the seller, but there are no markings on it. When selling it, I know someone will ask me how I know that its real. So I'd like to determine 110% if its real and have an answer for any potential buyers.

I'm 99% sure that is not an HKS Turbo.

I've seen a large variety of old HKS turbos, T300's, T45S's, T51S's, T04S's, etc, and all of them used 6 blade compressor wheels and had Garrett markings, not AirResearch.

If it had a much older 4-bolt DP discharge I *might* believe it was just really REALLY old, but I'd put money on that not being an HKS turbo of any kind.

Can you get a better pic of the data plate?

I'll try to get some better pics of the data plate

It was sold by one of the "offical SM turbocharger experts" as a rare hks turbo, hopefully he'll chime in.......

ding ding, you win!
I found photos and specs of the turbo this was claimed to be and there nothing alike. You were right about the vband and the compressor wheel.

AiResearch is Garrett. Did HKS use Garrett parts for their turbos?

Yes.

Chris Jensen still has his page up.
