Alright, for all of us computer nerds ... this new application looks to be pretty much amazing.

Watch the video - and yes I know that it is an hour long, but if you are interested in new technology - it is worth the watch.

Primarily Google Wave can be used for just about everything. It is both a social and a business utility. It streams information LIVE, as opposed to having to refresh.

At the end of the preview video though, was something that I found to be amazing. An automatic translator. Type in English, and it can come out in a different language... in real-time.

Discuss... anyone here excited about it?
Do you think they will create extensions for forums that support VBulletin?
How cool would it be to be subscribed to a thread, open up an application, and get instant results on new posts?!
(That is of course, just an idea)

I have thought about getting the preview, but I have opted to wait for the full release. I suppose by the time this gets mainstream, there will be more to see/use on the program. So I am happy to wait.

Just trying to burst the bubble that this kind of technology is nothing new, and has been around for damn near forever (technicly the forums are instant anyway).

There is no bubble to burst. I realize that this sort of thing has been capable for quite some time now. But this concept hasn't become reality in the form that this is taking, nor does it have any current competition.

The thing that makes this so great (to me) is the fact that this application is versatile. It doesn't seem to have very many boundaries either.

As for Neo's comment: not into the whole real-time-broadcasting-everything-to-everybody-social-networking thing.

Well - to be honest - me neither. Afterall you can turn that function on and off. But I also will venture to say this... sometimes it really is convenient to see things play out as they happen, as opposed to waiting... even if it isn't much of a task to hit the refresh key.

Example - I remember when Mountain Dew was running a promotion to get a free xbox using the points from bottle caps. I was working at a party store at the time and did all of the bottle returns, and as you can imagine, I had no problems whatsoever obtaining a large amount of bottle caps... after getting all of the points racked up I waited for the last set of xboxs to be released on their site - and totally missed my chance at getting one due to the fact that I had to refresh the page multiple times to see them listed.... I missed it by a matter of a few minutes.

I don't know, for me, that memory sticks out. I lost out on something that I wanted. Maybe if this sort of thing were implemented for that kind of stuff, it might not happen to someone else.

That and the whole idea of playback on how certain threads were changed - that idea is really cool too. Haha - no more ninja edits - people will be able to see what you changed!

I would love to get realtime updates for SM, but that's about it. I don't do twitter or facebook or myspace. I don't have blogs, I don't do podcasts, or any of that shit. This is my one and only digital addiction, so I'd love to get it a bit faster, but that's all.


But I'm strange.
