Gear Ratio Question

Im trying to figure out what gives better acceleration. We all know the Getrags are close ratio 6 speeds, and the R154 is wide ratio. however the FD (Final Drive) on Getrag equipped cars are 3.1-3.2 while R154 cars are anywhere from 3.7 to 4.x Final drives.

So in the end, wouldnt a car with wide ratio box like the r154 combined with a low gear such as a 3.91, compensate for not being close ratio? If not, wouldnt tire size also be able to compensate? And I am asking about flat out acceleration.

I run a r154 with 4.10 out back.. its wicked fun to drive. And I don't feel that their is enough load to give the turbo time to work 1 and 2nd.. also on the hwy I'm turning like 2850 to do 70.. I am prob going to go to 3.64 or 3.73 ring gear to make the car more driver freindly.. but I should still have a real good 1st thru 3rd ratio. But yes with the 410s it does accelerate fast. 1st is over as soon as u let the clutch go no traction.. and 2nd starts blowing tires at 4700. 3rd pulls like crazy

4.10 or 4.30 would give you good acceleration, but a lower overall top speed than a lower gear ratio like a 3.73 or 3.42. Depends on the kind of driving you do. Lot of in-town commuting or mountain road racing? Stick with higher gear ratios (4.xx's). Do a lot of highway commuting or road trips? Go with the lower ratios (such as the 3.73). :)
