Yesterday some coolant went down on the floor so I saw that I got an external coolant leak, just near the elbow coming from the rad...I would like to understand where its leaking form!!!! I am not sure but for now I think its the elbow seal ??? Since I cant see very good Id like some advices!

Looks like its coming from the "Elbow seal". Take it off and replace the gaskets, Would'nt be a bad idea to switch to a different coolant like Toyota Red either while your at it.

Check where the lower rad hose goes, you know behind the water pump where your coolant lines for the heater and turbo are. since its under the cps thats my first guess.

Had the same problem about a month ago(PO let the car sit out in Vegas summers for 6 years so all the rubber under the hood was as hard as your dad on viagra), There's a small 90degree bent 3/4" hose that runs from the hard line on the passenger's side to outlet from the block behind the water pump. Just buy a formed 3/4" hose w/ a couple of 90degree bends, and cut to fit. Ive bought a few of those formed hoses for everything in the engine bay...

Iirc some of the studs holding the water housing on come seal coated and if removed must be recoated prior to installation, something not mentioned in the TSRM and something many people don't do. Mind you, I'm not 100% positive about this but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. If it turns out to be true you can remove the nut and shoot some RTV in there then replace the nuts. That'll stop the leak. Best is to remove the stud and coat it though.

That's the hose I was referring to. If not coming from there, I would suspect either the housing gasket, or the studs that it hangs on as JetJock suggested.

Another thought.....The coolant return line from the turbo is also above that area. Check to be sure it is not leaking there as well.

I didn't have to use sealant on my water outlet housing studs, bolt or on the sealing surface itself. There are 2 studs and 1 bolt holding it on.

Just a genuine Toyota gasket. My TSRM doesn't list a torque value for these fasteners. I calculated 132in/lbs with antiseize compound and it held up fine.

I want to say its a headgasket if not the thermostat housing, connecting hose to head from housing, water pump (which its probably not), or even the radiator tube from the thermostat housing.

There are coolant channels in the block and head right on that side where the leak looks like it is coming from and my last gasket actually partially blew right there and on the back corner passenger side. Its not a bad idea to replace the head gasket anyways (and honestly not THAT hard unless you need to drive it every day).

well... I sure hope its not the head gasket, its not a fun thing to do (and not that easy)..

I sure want and need to drive it everyday and the gasket is supposed to be bullet proof (HKS 1.2mm with ARP studs)

If it is indeed a blow head gasket, do you think that could lead to air in the cooling system???

And does anyone knows where i can find a block tester (co2 test) in canada (autoshop..)???
