Emergency brake shoes and springs

1986 toyota supra 7mge, was having a weird noise coming from the drivers rear wheel. Took it off and found one of the springs/pins that hold the emergency brake pads shoes bent and hitting as the axle turned.

I went to the toyota dealer and they wanted $160 for the shoes and spring kit. I see the shoes on ebay for $47 dollars, anybody know where I can get the pin/springs in a kit? (other than the dealer)? I went to autozone, discount auto etc. no luck.

iirc one of the pins that holds the shoe to the backing plates is pre bent. it would be cheaper just to go to a junkyard and find the parts you need. new ebrake shoes are are like 2mm linings so unless your metal to metal theres really no point to replace them.

FYI it's a "parking brake" not an "emergency brake"...

Thanks, I saw one was pre bent and one was straight. Def need new shoes, guess I ll order the shoes off ebay and look for the pins at a junkyard or order them from Toyota.

Anytime I get something from the dealer I feel like Im taking a shank through the heart.

But what happens if you use it in a emergency?Than you could call it that..lol

I got everything in the back there except shoes from toyota for both sides for about $50 canadian total including taxes. Maybe you told them the wrong part, I would check again.

It's not designed or intended to be used as such a brake to be perfectly honest! Back in the olden days such as IJ's day, ebrakes actually powered the rear brakes with a cable....our cars just have a stupid leathery pad that is just mean to hold the car...our parking brakes usually won't lock the rear tires while moving and even if you use it in drifting it won't last long at all!

But again it was never designed to be a back up...if it was then it would have a sep caliper that works on the actual brake disk.

It's an emergency brake a.k.a. parking brake.

OR

Parking brake a.k.a. emergency brake.

Call it what you want, it's meant to be used for both.

Anyways nate, not to get distracted, take a pic and go to toyota and take your TSRM in, or print out the pages and show them what you need. Possibly the mistook what you wanted for something else?

The toyota guy showed me pictures- with the shoes and hardware it was $156 and change.
I wasnt thinking about it, but I had an extra axle with all the hardware laying around so we used that. I ll order the shoes off ebay when I am ready.

Another question- Does just one side have parking brake shoes, or are there parking break shoes under both rear rotors?

The rear rotors both have the parking brake shoes. I bought non dealer shoes for cheap. They looked like they would'nt last 5 mins, but they seem to be ok. gl.
