I have a question that i just thought of, that i don't know if there would be a difference in... It may be a stupid one... but I figured its best to be SURE right.. Ok I put in a 91 7mgte into my 87 supra turbo... got it to start 2 weeks ago, and it runs fine (thanks by the way everyone who helped me get it to start up). My question is... is the 87 7MGTE DIPSTICK the same as my 91 7mgte dipstick? Because the 91 motor i have now... didn't come with it.. so i figured it would be the same considering they're the same motor just different years... BUT i don't know... Thanks in advance.

The actual dipsticks changed over the years, not sure about the tube itself though.

The tubes are the same. I've coated at least a 15 from various years, they all were identical.

FYI you can buy them brand new from the dealer for less then $20. They fit better and are easier to read brand new.

And to answer your question, the dipsticks changed throughout the years. But not where it counts, length. They simply changed the end where you read the oil level.

^Are the newer year ends easier to read? Now i'm thinking about buying a new one...I've sandd and put grooves in my 87 one so it's not bad to read in the sunlght. If the newer ones are easier to read i might consider it.

I believe it is the newer ones that are way easier to read.

I'm not 100% on that. I remember my 86.5 was easy to read, and my 92 is easy to read...but I've seen some that was near impossible. Somewhere around 87-89ish.

This is the new dipstick. Much easier to read than the earlier ones.

One other thing, in my 91 repair manual, the oil change capacity with filter is now listed at 5.0 quarts, instead of 4.7.

I think this should go to all years. We don't have the old TSB's-technical service bulletins- that told of those changes. So do it with your older ones also. I put in more like 5.5 myself anyway. A little windage is better than a spun bearing.
