Hey guys, its almost one in the morning here in tucson and after four hours of scouring these forums and the interwebs, i havent really found what i'm looking for... I'll explain. Im in the process of a full top to bottom rebuild, complete with je .20 over pistons, eagle rods, arp hardware, and a t61 turbo that i bought in a kit from a company who built performance turbo kits called SM customs, who are no longer in existence. the turbo that came basically looks like an ebay turbo but supposedly has garret internals, at least thats what i was told but i will be taking it to a specialist in phoenix to confirm.
Ok on to my question... i have been thinking about turbo setups a lot and it seems that every turbo that ive seen for the most part utilizes the clamp to attach the down pipe, right? Has anyone tried welding a flange to the turbo, with maybe like an inch or two of pipe between the turbo and the flange for stud/nut access? To me that would seem superior the the clamp simply for ease of removal/install of the dp and/or turbo. Please explain why this is not a more common occurrence, at least from the searching I've done... Thanks in advance for the enlightenment, sorry for the novel...

You mean v band? V band is 10x easier as its one nut to loosen and then the dp will come off.

Stock ct has 4 bolts and one of them can be a pain.

And no there are tons of turbos in either way. V band is better and easier tho hence why the larger turbos all use them.

They also have the v band equivalent for the intake pipes. Its called a Wiggins clamp.

ok thats what i was looking for, i just remember taking my stock ct out and ended up having to take the dp with it cuz i couldn get all the nuts to break loose. What dp should i look into with a v-band then? i couldnt seem to find one, but maybe i didnt look hard enough

Theres also different size vbands. Dm sells a downpipe and you can also get them off amazon.com. If its not the right v band flange you can take it to any exhaust/welding shop cut it off and weld the correct one on.

I would recommend spraying on some sort of antiseize on the v band bolt threads...it going to smoke for a little while due to some of the anti-seize burning off
To help keep it from rusting and breaking off 2 years down the road if you need to remove it

I have replaced a lot of v band clamps on vehicle at work due to this
But theyre also 5yrs+ old powerstrokes and cummins

thanks everyone for the replies!!! i'm lucky enough to work at a shop and have access to welders etc, so ill probably buy the correct dp and if the v band flange is wrong just weld one on that fits. thanks again everyone, i'll probably be posting a massive build thread pretty soon that i hope you will all enjoy, tons of body and interior work etc..

Figures...

I was searching on ebay not too long ago and stumbled upon a bolt on adapter for a v-band on the CT-26, but now there's none up.
