My personal choice would be to tell you to put that money down on something newer and make car payments. Sometimes it's better to be in a little debt and have something reliable compared to something that isn't warranted and has a bunch of miles. Not to mention it's also nice to actually not have to work on a car if your a busy guy like myself.

With that being said i voted for the miata because that's the best choice out of everything listed, but to me it looks like a girls car, atleast the earlier pop up headlight versions.

Fiero's are the shit, i don't know about the stock motors but one of my best friends has a 450whp v8 fiero that absolutely hauls ass. I think he even gets somewhere in the mid 20's for mpg.

what makes a fiero cooler than an MR2? they seem to be getting more praise at least in this thread but they are similar to the MR2 in layout. sort of. how do they handle? is it just because you can drop in bigger engines?

I voted MR2 because of the gas mileage and from what I have read they are great to drive (as long as you're careful). I like them in general...so it was partially that.

However, if you like the miata and can get one for a decent price I'd look more into that. might be eaiser to control in emergency situations and if you like open-air that's easy with the car. although i would suggest a roll-bar. i dont think ANY convertible, especially a sportscar, should be without one.

I've been looking at this MR2 for a DD, I have to get money ready and consider other things, as well as keep an eye out for a good miata, but...i like it. MR2's come pretty cheap too! nice ones can be had for under 4 grand... i dont know about miatas.

The mk1 mr2 is the winner on fuel economy. But if that was all i was after i wouldnt be looking at cars like these. I think the fiero is getting more praise because more people hate it lol. Theres always the dark and light side involving most american cars. But as for the stock auto ...good torque, pulls nice from idle to about 4000 then falls off from there and shifts about 5000. There was also an econo gear and a performance gear if youve ever test driven one. But overall Pretty lame compared to any modern motor. And with the northstar, easy-ish swap cause it bolts to the stock trans and same motor mount locations. thats a complicated ass motor though. And the 4 and 5 speeds were very strong, can handle the v8s for 1000s of miles. And also with the miata i hear the 6 speed from a 2000+ miata is a pretty easy swap and comes with a better OD and closer ratios. For someone with experience...how difficult is the mk1 mr2 and/or miata to work on? Just in general, not talking mods.

Mk2 MR2 with the 3SGE? Very good engine....plus you can always dump a 3SGTE in there later on :)

MK2 MR2's did not come with that engine in the US.

Corrado's are generally cheap as all hell here...not as abundant as Golfs, but just as easy to work on...and they look cooler too...

Shame you guys never got the Mk3 Ford Escort RS Turbo or the later Mk5 Ford RS2000....you didn't even get any of the Sierra or Granada Cosworths - this makes me sad :(

You never got the 3SGE/GTE? Ugh....well, take an MR2 anyway and do an engine swap :D

The turbo MR2 got the 3SGTE. The NA is the 5SFE.
