Hey guys,

i've done a bit of searching but came up empty handed, if ive missed something please point me in the right direction.

working out the wiring for my new EMS (standalone)

ive got most of it nutted out except the CPS has got me a little confused and the TSRM isn't the best at describing the function

the cars a 7mgte stock coils/stock cps

i need to know the function of the following outputs.

G2 - CAM POSITION SENSOR
G1 - CAM POSITION SENSOR
NE - CAM POSITION SENSOR
G- - CAM POSITION SENSOR

G1 is to indicate when #1 is at TDC
G2 is to indicate when #6 is at TDC
NE is the tooth counter for the 12 tooth wheel.
G- is ground.

you sir are a legend :)

my EMS has the following "trigger inputs"

A Ground
B Trigger
C Ground
D Ground
E Home
F +12v

I'm working under the assumption that
A,C,D are connected to sensor grounds (G-)?
F is a power supply. which leaves trigger and home

would i be correct in saying?

B - Trigger = NE
E - Home = G1

I thought the toyota CPS was 24 tooth?

on a further note can someone please clear up the TPS signal as well?

i know the 7m runs a 4 wire TPS, my EMS uses a 3 wire setup, my question is which wire do i use as TPS signal?

IDL - THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
VTA - THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR

toyota has a idle switch (IDL) witch is the 4th wire. It lets the TCCS know when the throttle body is 100% closed and to go into idle mode. Hint code 51 on the CEL when running OEM TCCS ;)

So i should be using VTA as the sensor signal?

does the ecu act as a immobilizer?
i see that the ecu has the following inputs/outputs

STA - STARTER SWITCH
IG SW - IGNITION SWITCH

if i wished to bypass this could i connect the wire IG SW to STA?

i've got a relay connected to the trigger wire as i had the typical starting issues.

Actually, Toyota ECU uses G1 for TDC#6, but the definition is completely arbitrary, it can be used successfully for either.

The ECU uses STA to run specific cranking routines in the code. IGSW is used to signal the ECU to commit suicide and turn itself off, as well as kill power to the fuel pump relay (COR) and home the ISC.

NE is 24 tooth at the cam, equivalent to 12 tooth at the crank (i.e. 30 degrees crank angle resolution).

so it should still crank with no ecu present?

i need to pull the stock ecu out and see what still works i guess.

Thanks for all the help guys, its been very useful

Yes, the car will crank with no ECU present. It (obviously) won't run.

VTA is the signal for the TPS, and you will have a common ground for the TPS, CTS, and IAT sensors - as well as a common 5v rail.

Cheers :)

where is the common 5v rail? cant seem to find it in any wiring diagrams...

5V rail is the VC pin at the ECU (connector S pin1)

cheers :) VC is labled "AIR FLOW METER THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR"

thats what confused me :) i think that's everything sorted

does the fuel pump system run a - or + trigger signal? im thinking about redoing the wiring for the fuel pump according to my new ecu..

It may be labeled Vcc - it is on the Soarer ecu, anyway ;)

thats cool :) im going to match the wire colour on the pin to the actual sensors and install a full loom.

The Idle valve...
I'm assuming in normal operation battery voltage is applied to B1 + B2? and the S1-4 connected to the coils 1-4?
FI_107.gif

other things i need to sort out (but not crucial for operation of the car)

TEMS - will it work without the TCCS?
Oil pressure gauge (ive got a digi dash)
Coolant gauge temp sensor

i know 2 plugs on the TCCS go to the engine loom and 1 goes to the body loom. and i cant seem to find oil/water temp on the pinout, i'm yet to actually rip the car apart and get messy (maybe next weekend)

another question!

last thing to take care of is the Ignition system.

i've noticed the stock igniter is a multiplexing unit

IGT - Trigger to fire spark
IGF - Return signal (not important)
IGdA - coil multiplexing signal
IGdB - coil multiplexing signal

so the way it toggles coil 1 = 00, coil 2 = 01 and coil 3 = 11
my EMS only has 4 direct ignition channels and requires a 3 channel igniter,
would i be correct in saying it is not possible to run the factory igniter?
