Coolant Leak!

So, our budget racer started leaking some coolant on the floor, which, upon first glance, appeared to be coming from the water pump. However, after tearing into her, installing a new water pump, and putting everything back together... more leaking. Once again, we took everything apart to get back down in under the thermostat/water pump area to try and see where the leak was coming from, and it appears that a seal of some kind - between the block and the lower main aluminum plate (I think it's aluminum) has failed. 1. Has anyone ever run into this issue before? 2. Not even sure what that piece is called, so even if were are able to get it off, how in the world do we find a replacement gasket/seal for it? The motor has never really gotten excessively hot, but we did run her pretty hard during a 6 hr endurance race last fall. Looks like we'd have to get pretty deep into her to get to the part that needs fixing. Main pulley, timing belt all appear to need to come off. And, it almost looks like this piece ajoins the oil pan on it's bottom side... which one would think is only going to complicate matters further.

Frustrated and deflated. Any ideas? Guidance?? Are we gonna have to pull this beast out entirely to fix it properly? (She's a budget racer, mind you...)

Are you sure its not the little 90 degree hose behind the water pump housing? That hose is comon and in the same location. Also put a pressure tester on it, youll find it easy that way.
