They aren't missing out on it! Sounds like that dealer maybe not doing what is suppose to or the parts guy didn't know.

It's called a "Trans Pan Service" you get a new gasket for the pan if it can't be reused, the filter gets cleaned out with brake cleaner because its a SS mesh type filter. It is reinstalled after cleaning, pan bolted back up, and fresh fluid to fill up.

It's a little more than just a basic drain and fill but it helps a good bit sir. Usually every 30k you would want to do that. Sorry to see your trans bomb GL


Edit: also you yourself could have done this and afterwards even do a trans flush. Just a part of basic up keep.

Every used car I've ever owned comes straight into the shop here and I flush all the fluids and do a tune up on it. Just for a little added insurance. But in your case the trans was on it's way out probably before you even bought the car.
