CEL before start up

just making sure that everything is ok, before i start the car "on" position the CEL comes on and stays on till i start the car up is this norm or do i need to check the codes and fix the codes

note when the car starts the light go's off

Almost all of your dash lights will come on when you have the key in the ON position, to let you know whether the lights are burnt out or not. I would be worried if your CEL didn't come on.

well thats why i am asking i thought it was kinda strange to have it come on at the "on" position and then go off when the car starts.. never had a car that did that.. but then agean its a supra heh

It's normal. The TCCS keeps the MIL illuminated until rpm reaches 500 at which point it gets extinguished. Thereafter whenever rpm falls to 200 or below the bulb burn out check is automatically reset and invoked again. There's actually a lot more to it but that should be enough to answer your question.
