Black trim

hey dose any one know where i can get the trim around the hatch wind shield and windows in black instead of chrome? or is it just something i have to paint?

Its supposed to be black. There is a layer of black rubbery stuff that often flakes off. Just repaint it or find some trim that still has the black on it.

I saw a car that someone recoated the trim with spray bedliner. It actually looked really nice. That's what I plan to try on mine now that my first idea of using wide electrical tape is peeling off from the sun.

You can use plasti dip.

New ones can be pricey.

plasti dip can be sourced at LOWES now in canada....

likely also in US...

You can still get the parts new from Toyota but the four pieces are about $450. Best bet is to find a donor that has the trim in good shape but bear in mind, the two pieces that run up the sides of the glass are not reusable, they are just stuck on there instead of being clipped.

They are covered with black tape from the factory. I work at a Toyota assembly plant, we build highlanders and sequia's, the highlanders use what we call "blackout tape", just like they put on our supra's back in the day. But on our cars it hardens up and shrinks over time, that's why it flakes, cracks and comes off the trim.
