LOL I was just messing with you. :)

Supposedly what it does is make the surface of the crank oil resistant so it doesn't pick up oil weight as it spins. It's not the first thing I would spend money on if you were doing a basic rebuild, because the gains will be minimal, but if you are going all out on the engine it can't hurt :dunno:

Picked up my pan yesterday, it's a little rough still, but you get the idea.
It's said to hold 5.5 qts of oil in the pan alone, and it has three trap doors in the sump.

Bottom end is almost together, just need to pick up main bearings tomorrow. Everything was washed carefully and all clearances checked.
Crank had to be ground .010" under on the main journals, and .020" under on the rod journals. Rings were gapped at .018" second ring and .020" top ring.

Bought another one of these after the machine shop decided that their 50% share of the old one was worth more then my 50% share of it, and their 50% share was "not for sale". (it's a long story)

i feel stupid asking but it would be stupid not to. What do you or how do you use that torque plate? Whats it for? simulating a head?

You use that to simulate a cylinder head, with a metal headgasket between it and the block, ARP studs installed and torqued to 80 ft/lbs. Then the bore and hone is done with the torque plate installed, so the stresses on the block are the same when it is machined as they will be with the head installed. It makes for purfect round cylinders and better sealing rings.
