Best performance from W58's

I know that big numbers and W58's aren't synonymous, but I was curious about how far they can go. I've been trying to push mine to self-destruction, but it just hasn't happened (yet).

What are the biggest power numbers (whp/wtq) they've seen? Best 1/4 mile times? My theory is when a car is over 3500lbs, it takes much less power to kill it. My friends NA-T SC300 saw the demise of 3 or 4 W58's (thank God for warrantees).

On the other hand my car has laid down run after run 11 and 12 second passes, and stays in the 370whp/400wtq range all the while. Where's that magic breaking point? This is one of the few parts that hasn't failed me, unlike: busted half-shaft, three clutches, three diffs, pistons, etc.

I think they'll stand some decent power, as long as you don't launch hard as hell (or launch at all)

I've been pushing around 300rwhp through mine. My car weighs about 3400 with me in it. So far, so good. I plan to bring it into the 400+ range, but I also have an R154 waiting to go in if/when it grenades. :)

That's true w/ the R154 but the W58 is a different story. The W58 doesn't have enough gear area so, rolling on the gas with big boost/load can kill them. I blew one going up a hill in 3rd @ 16psi. But, I had another 420rwhp on the dyno plus a dozen pulls leading up to it, not to mention many passes at the track. Did kill an R154 at the track last summer, however.

Mine started showing signs of stress with a gt3040r and 10 Psi.

Bigger problem was getting a clutch that would live and still be drivable in traffic.

Spec ;) but then again wasn't available to you before you went auto. Did the auto come with a purse Ian? :D

a friend of mine has a mk2 and is pushing 500rwhp+ his main problem is finding a clutch that is streetable and will live as said before.

Didn't know Spec made a twin for the W58 (I made my own)

As for the purse YOU know an Auto is going to be faster/more consistant given the same power in just about any car so if I need to carry a purse to be faster I'm happy to :icon_razz (Could be worse If I had a Yaris they come with a skirt hope ya shaved your legs)

I'm running acts extreme clutch. It’s the strongest one they carry. Seems to be working great! Just sucks driving in traffic, I hate it!
