Bad valve guides? (picture included)

So I recently tore down my 7m and I noticed a good amount of build up on the bottom of my valves.

Is this a result of worn out valve guides?

I just want to be sure before I start doing anything else to the head/motor. The build up is pretty bad on some cylinders and it's the same on the intake/exhaust side.

Explain to me how buildup on the bottom of valves would be caused by valve guides?

Indeed. So what's the cause of this? Valve guide seals? I wish I knew more about this so I could answer my own questions but I want to make sure I know what the problem is. Where should I hunt the problem?

Id would look into piston rings, turbo charger leaks, and PCV system leaks first before you ever dive into the head & valves.
