Auto Tranny Coolers

I just changed radiators on my auto transmission Supra Turbo (now with 1jz). I need a tranny cooler now because of the new 3 row rad with no auto tranny cooler. I'm looking into the following.

Hayden 1678 & 1679 coolers (plate type) $48 - $60
Derale 13504 & 13614 coolers (plate type) $62 - $65

I also saw the following; it's another stacked plate cooler:

Description says:

The self-regulating design features bypass cold transmission fluid automatically (without thermostats or valves) until its viscosity decreases and allows fluid to flow through the main body of the cooler.

It seems like it would be a good idea if it really does that, but I don't know if it's just bull. I've heard of thermostat controls before but never that. Is it for real? If so, is it desirable?

Which of these would be best, and are any of them overkill. One concern is can I keep the tranny too cool or from reaching proper operating temp(don't really think so but not sure)? Right now I just have intake and 3" exhaust but will be upgrading down the road for lots more power.
