Are the rockers rubberized or painted?

I'm getting my car painted and the body guy is trying to tell me they are painted satin black(the bottom like 4" of the car). Wouldn't they get all chipped up though if it was just paint down there? He wants to paint them satin black, but I'd rather just tell him to leave them alone if they are rubberized, or is there a special rubberizing paint I should use/know the brand?

They're rubberized just like the rest of the underside of the car....he's an idiot.

From the moulding on down they are painted with some sort of textured coating, can't remember what it's called though.
