I started a thread a while back about joining the National Guard, well that idea fell through do to personal preferances after more research. I have since then decided on joining the Air Force Reserve. The two jobs that most closley fit my criteria are 2A5X3-Integrated Avionics and 2T2X1- air transport. My recuiter has also informed me that my no.1 pick 3C0x1 is currently over saturated at moment for the reserves.

My reasons for starting this thread is to:
1. see if there was any "inside" info about the 3c0.
2. see if there was any other suggestions more closley related.
3. see if there was any experience in any of said Afscs.

My recruiter has informed me today that the Integrated Avionics Afsc is guarnteed to be mine but shipping dates are going to be an issue for me, so he is suggesting that we wait until october for available shipping dates.

Any input is always appreciated.

I was 2A573A when I separated. "Communication/Navigation/Mission Systems"
I enjoyed the job, but not my shop.

If you have basic mechanical and electrical knowledge, or the aptitude to learn it, and you can perform a job [in a timely manner] by reading instructions from a book, and enjoy it, it may be the job for you.

The job was working on aircraft, on the flightline. You fixed basic avionic/electrical problems, and troubleshot and repaired avionic systems. The main systems were different types of radar, GPS, HF/VHF/UHF and satellite communications radios, RF navigation systems, instruments, digital mapping, and many others. Depending on the aircraft, you could have many systems to keep you busy learning and fixing.

What's the "air transport" exactly? I'm an 11M1A mobility pilot but I don't know what the 2T would be.

EDIT: Sounds like it is more of what we all the Passenger Terminal or Pax Terminal for short. From what I have seen, I wouldn't recommend it for you.

How long did you do it for? Are you planning on using those skills in civillian life?

I joined as 2A1x1, Avionic Sensors, and did that for 5 years. At that time, Sensors and Comm/Nav combined. I did 4 more years of that.

I used it in the civilian world, but not in the exact same manner as you would think.

Think UPS loading. They offer a 15,000 bonus and a G.I. Bill kicker right now. Those were my reasons for picking that AFSC.

On the outside I worked for 18 months in automotive instrumentation. Basically, hooking test equipment, vehicles, and data loggers together, to log performance data on new equipment. There was more to it than that, but that is the basic idea of what I did.
I also did 9 months as a C-130 Communication / Navigation subject matter expert, where I helped write courseware, visual aids, lesson and testing plans for the USMC.

Oh, sure, everybody wants to be the pointy-nosed pilot! :)

Just kidding. If a C-5 had afterburners, it'd probably be an EPA violation, but I'd use 'em! Plus, we don't worry too much about GLOC'ing in turns...just spilling the coffee.
