if you can feel the clutch engage with 12v applied check the clutch relay for proper operation.

Did you check the 25 amp fuse in the passenger side kick panel?

That is the fuse that supplies power to the clutch that you say is not engaging. the 10amp a/c fuse gives power to the ac controls and not the clutch. you can see if you are getting power to this 25 amp fuse. your problem sounds like it would be the 25 amp fuse most likely, then the clutch relay by the fuse box, or the hi/lo presure switch if faulty. Thats in order of most likely to least.

I hate to look stupid but I could not locate a 25 amp fuse in the rt kick panel. I did find the 10amp. Is it in the fuse box or somewhere else?

Thanks

I have no idea what that guy is talking about. As far as I know there isn't a 25 amp fuse associated with the AC system. The clutch is powered by the 10 amp fuse. When I agreed with him I was referring to the clutch testing method he mentioned. I should have screened his post more carefully. You should have looked at the schematic...

I did look at the schematic, that is why I asked. I never found a 25 amp anywhere in the A/C system.

yea sorry about the 25 amp statement. it is the 10 amp fuse over there that goes to the a/c magnet clutch in j/b no. 4 in the right kick panel. 40 amp to blower motor.

i believe you have already checked the 15 amp in the left kick panel that is the cig labeled fuse.

my neighbors supra did not engage the clutch so a mechanic wired power directly to the relay bypassing the oem wiring so his a/c clutch would engage. we replaced his fuse in the right kick panel and his clutch worked then.

Sorry if I'm hijacking. I have read through this post and learned enough to hopefully fix my issue as well. My A/C was wired directly to the blower motor wiring. The problem I have is similar because when I disconnect the wire from the blower motor and press the ac button on the cc my compressor will not kick on either. In addition my car wont idle up and it will stall (ac on) if I push in the clutch from about 2000rpms. My guess would be that the ECU is not getting a signal from the CC panel! :dunno:

I will check the fuse when I get home..

Well my 10 amp fuse was blown. Replaced it, disconnected the wire from the blower fan and my A/C button on the CC unit still doesn't do anything. I also tried to pull a code 51 when turning on the A/C and I do not get any codes.

That 10amp fuse is fed from the 40 amp C.B that is in the drivers kick panel as seen here (the wire labled L-O = Blue/Orange Stripe).

notice the two other fuses

20 amp Dome & 7.5 amp Gauge fuses. Those are the +12vdc for the Heater Control Assembly (the climate control panel).

The 10 amp fuse in the passenger kick panel controls the clutch but the turn on relay is fed from the 15amp Cig fuse.

ok, i am having this same problem, tomorrow i am going to replace both relays under battery and see if it works, has anyone else found a fix to this..

well i went to the closest junk yard and found only two mkiiis, i took both of the relays off and tried both of them, and still no a/c. right now i have it straight wired through a switch but of course would like to use it like toyota intended...also if anyone needs parts off of one of them let me know, i might have to make another trip up there in a month or so...

Still trying to get this AC clutch to engage. Put new relay, CC and amp in place and nothing changed. Freon pressure is good and HI/LO switch is new. All lights (green) work on the CC.

I don't get a ECU code when the AC is engaged but DO get it when gas pedal is pressed. I can run a hot wire from the amp (to clutch relay) and it engages.

What wiring can I look at now ?

Wait - Straight wired ? Does it actually work ? At what point can you put a switch without worrying about "blowing it up" cause the compressor has to turn on and off.

I'm suspecting a ground somewhere but the relay is not grounded to the body.

The relay next to the battery on mine tests ok - the relay I replaced cause I couldn't really test it was the one next to the gas pedal between the blower and the firewall.
