Ok buying the wife a new ride my two choses are a 98 land rover with a blown hg easy fix 1000 for the rover and 750 for a motor with 59k on to swap in. Or a 95 BMW 740il that has hail damage and some rear quarter damage. Interior is perfect in both. What do to guys think? I can fix both o and the guy wants 2500 for the BMW.

Doesn't matter if you're doing the maintenance yourself. The cost of parts (lots of time items are sold ONLY as assemblies) and the build quality (i.e. not as good as Japanese cars) is what kills you.

OK, I worded the "gay" part wrong, SUV's are STUPID. They're not safer (no, they're just more deadly to everyone else), they get worse gas milage, they don't handle, they ride like shit, and 99% of them never see dirt and if they do it's a dirt road. 99% of SUV owners could be in a car/wagon/minivan.

Very true man. Parts on the BMW are not that bad I looked around. But ya I agree on the suv thing. Thanks for giving me appoint to argue with her lol.

The only reason I like the rover is because when it ices or snows here I won't have to get my ass up at 4am to take her to work lol.

4x4 + ice = still failing

Trust me, I know from experience.

Anyway, more on the SUV, many wear items will be more expensive (tires for example)

Very true! But man a BMW that has 282 hp auto or Manuel and every option I can think of for 2500 mabe 2 grand. I am not a body man but I have a few friends that are and say they can fix and paint for under a grand if nothing more it could a good flip car?

Compare:

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1995-to-2001-bmw-7-series-2.htm

Also, going by those, the prices are WAYYYYYY too high.

The Discovery is very basic and overpriced for it's name. I wouldn't go near it. Now if it was a Range Rover or Defender, maybe...

Fixing the BMW, maybe. I would talk them down on the price though as it looks like shit.

ha i was just kidding. i in a house full of bmw drivers and i always rip on em for it. im not a huge fan of e38. there just kinda gross. and 7 series parts are just insanly priced anyways. maintence costs have to be close to the same so it depends what the vehicle is being used for i guess.

I've never had a problem driving through any weather in my v8 rwd sedan, in fact I've gotten an explorer and a durango stuck more times than I've gotten my ls400 stuck (which is zero times in 2 years).

My europeon car has been 1000% more reliable than my japanese built toyota supra. Just saying, if you haven't owned a euro don't dog on them too much.

If I were to buy an SUV for a wife situation I would get a 4 runner or a land cruiser.

My e36 M3 is a POS in comparison to the Supra. I bought it with 98k miles on it. It's not built nearly as well as the Supra is.
