Hi experts,

I replaced my battery and than my stock alarm went off. Now I can't start my car, it won't crank and I know it's for sure because of my stock alarm system. This happen to me before and I had to wait a few weeks inorder for my car to reset. Anyone know how to reset the alarm system so I can try to start my car. Thanks

Joe

  • lock and shut the doors.
  • wait about 30 seconds or more
  • unlock the door with the key. try this with the other door in case it doesn't work with the first. the sensor on the back of the key cylinder may be defective.
  • get in and start it

Your door lock sensor might be messed up. When you turn the key it disables the alarm. It also might be the wires. From the lock there's like 2 or 3 wires that are taped to a metal rod to keep them away from the window, if those go bad the alarm won't disable. Try unlocking the car from the passenger side door.

if you want to disable the stock alarm like we did on my bros car and fix the problem of weak contacts etc....

Pop hood.
Located black box located right next to the hood latch assembly.
Mark location of hood latch w. sharpie or pencil.
Remove latch.
Remove dust cover for wiring.
Unhook the connector.
Replace the dust cover.
Use the before mentioned marks bolt the hood latch back on.
Close hood and never get stranded again!

PS. to reset the alarm remove the efi fuse for 45sec-1 min. this will clear your codes and usually resets the stock alarm. Make sure the car is unlocked when you do this. good luck!

If I set the stock alarm, I have to un-set it by unlocking the passenger door first otherwise it will go off when I open the driver's door. weird.

My car is doing the same thing. It hasn't cranked in a week. My wonderful husband has disconnected the wires by the hood latch, and tried to reset it, but it won't reset. You can hear a clicking sound by the passengers kick panel. Any more suggestions? We've tried everything that we could find by searching on here. Thanks.

to hell with the hood latch thing. if you want to start your car again, locate the little black box that says theft deterent or whatever above the steering column and unplug the harness from it. Locate the blue wire with orange stripe, strip it, extend it, and ground it. viola. no annoying factory alarm and your car starts!

I did that last week. Car wouldn't start. Two days later it started. It hadn't been touched in a couple of days and then started right up. I cut it off, and now it won't start again........................:dunno:

um... I did it while the battery was hooked up. i dunno if that makes a difference. Also, find a good silid ground and keep it grounded. Don't disconnect it.

I unplugged it and then grounded the blue wire with the orange stripe, and then plugged it back in. I tried it with the plug in and out and neither worked...............:dunno:

I would check the key lock switches. They have a small contact ring that I've found gets a little corroded over time. I cleaned mine up on another Supra and my alarm worked great after that. Be careful taking them apart since they can be brittle.

i did the hood latch thing with mine last year, then car wouldnt start, then i cut the wire for the alarm box way up around the steering column and never had a problem after that. I recommend you do both methods.

I had the exact same problem you all are having when i first got my supra,,i tried all the methods,i finally got tired of fooling with it,so i ran 1 wire from hotside fo battery, and 1 wire from the starter to a toggle switch in the car...no more problems EVER....but be sure to get a fused line just incase it gets grounded!!! my 2 pence
