Will this work?

As some of you may have read my motor is junk and I have a local guy with a full longblock out of an 87.

Will this plug and play with all of my 89 existing wiring?

Will the 87 take the same AEM EMS unit?

I did a quick search and couldnt really find the answer I was looking for.

Thanks

i just put a 90 motor in my 86.5 and i just changed the harness and some sensors on the t-stat housing and as well as the distributor and that was all
i take that back i had to use my old injectors due to the impedance deference but all in all no big headache

You can use the 87 longblock without any problems. You will just hook up your 89+ wiring harness to it (and sensors as some of them are slightly different -- like the CPS).

Since when has the CPS been different? The connector on the CPS never changed, nor did the part number for it.

Are you able to switch out motor mounts, or do you have to get the front subframs from the pre '89s to put one in a +'89? When I buy another supra to rebuild, if it's a pre '89, I want to have the beefier +'89 engine in it.

Hmm, good to know. My assumption stemmed from the fact that the 87-88 AEM ems initially had some issues with the CPS signal (while the 89+ version seemingly did not). This was the reason for the additional delay when releasing the '87 EMS 3 or 4 years ago...

You just use the engine mounts from your current engine. What is "beefier" on the 89 engine, by the way?

Thicker block, more ribs on it, better crank, better exhaust manifold, beefier all the way around. Check out IJ.'s side-by-side comparisons if you don't believe me...

Generally speaking those changes happened for 1990, not 89, along with the newer crank. (Happened in 08/89 - model year 1990).
