I have 87 7mgte with a blown head gasket. I recently took the head to the machine shop and they said they had to shave .010 below mininum thickness. Is the head worth anything now? And if it is, how thick of a head gasket do i need? thanks for the help jeff

If they have to go BELOW minimun it's junked. Take it to another shop you trust or with a good rep just to get a second opinion.

Yes the head has been shaved in the past. The local machine shop shaved the head 0.010 below minimum thickness without contacting me before hand. So im guessing the head is complete junk now?

Pretty much yes. They shouldn't have done it if it was below thickness. I would go complain my ass off.
when i had my old head shaved, my old machine shop did the same thing to me. they also dropped it. i told them they should have called me first before they did anything to it. they bought me a new head because i found a crack in it AND it was below min. thickness. raise some hell, what could they do. tell you they are keeping it ? it's already junk-so tell them keep it. :biglaugh:
The local machine shop will not replace my f#$%^^ head. So i will just go ahead and replace the whole engine. SO if anyone has any info on a 7mgte for sale it would be helpful. thanks for the help
