I finally got the chance to take my setup to a dyno and tune it. The best it put down was 404 rwhp and 386 tq @ 23psi . These are not bad numbers, but I expected over 500rwhp and I don't know why it wouldn't hit that. I'm sure there are some issues that need to be worked out.

I would like any input that you may have to help me out. The thing that sucked was the Dyno had no wideband logging. So it just logged HP and RPM. I tuned with my Stinger and the wideband hooked to it and also my AEM Uego.

One thing to note is that there was a pretty good power drop at around 5200 rpms. I think the clutch was slipping.

The first video is where the car almost flew off of the dyno!!!! My exhaust melted one of the straps....pretty scary!!

And here is a video of the setup when it was tuned out a little better.

Here are some of the numbers i got from one of the pulls. I should be getting a graph printout soon..

That does seem low.
I just had my 1.5jz dyno'd with my pt67 and @ 18psi, I make 539rwhp and 487rwtq. At 22psi, I made 616rwhp and 567rwtq. I do have the 272 small core cams, stinger ems, 624cc injectors and methanol injection.

That first video is priceless..............SHIT!!!!!!!!

I know. Plus there are a few guys that I can think of with the same setups making over 500 rwhp.

And yeah, I was the one driving when it took off. I hit the brakes really hard but I think it was the other straps that saved me, my friends and the car.

The guy tuning and listening for knock heard nothing. He was using the copper tubing hooked to the block then the tube goes to a set of headphones. I thought he played with timing but could be wrong. I think my timing was at 17* at 20psi. I'll post my timing map up in a while.

Yea. That's why the numbers are low. IMHO you should be able to run more advanced timing with your lower CR. What octane fuel do you run?

Did you pay this guy to tune or was he just listening in to be a nice guy?

Do you happen to have the dyno graph? I think I know why it had a dip in power, I don't think the clutch slipped. I'll let you know what I think when i see the graph. If you payed the tuner then he should have picked up on this..

Full DIY 3" exhaust.

93 octane

Scott, I did pay him, the whole thing including 30+ dyno pulls and 4 hours of time was $300. So it wasn't too bad to gain 100hp.

The main guy helping me tune is a Honda guy. So maybe these engines are a little different for him.

I'm still waiting on the dyno graphs. But the 1st post shows the numbers per RPM.

What are you thinking it is?

I think there is more tuning to be done. I took it out yesterday and noticed some pretty rich spots still.

Oh that rate's not bad at all. Honda tuners arn't used to the ammount of ignition timing these motors can take. Partially because honda's require very little to make power, and very little to detonate.

I believe the tune is too conservative. I believe the drop in power was due to a boost spike, as you can see your ignition timing drops off sharply at 20psi, so if it was actually a boost spike it would have killed your power.

OK, that makes since cuz my boost crept up to 24 psi. He said that he never heard any detonation at all. What do you think my timing numbers should be for 15psi, 20 psi and 23-25 psi?

I'm thinking

15 psi maybe 20*

20 psi 19*

23 psi 17*

Just take it easy, and slow. If your uncomfortable do .5* at a time. Never do more than 1 degree at a time. It's somewhat of a gradual process best done on the dyno. You're listening for the rice on tin-foil sound. That's the ping, or detonation.

good luck with the tuning btw. But what mufflers/resonators etc?

No resonators, just an ebay 3" inlet 4" outlet muffler.
I bought mandrel bent aluminzed steal on ebay for the exhaust piping. It was a mandreal bent kit with more pieces the I could use for $110 shipped.

Gotcha!! Yeah, the guys behind the car were amazed at how loud it was. And the better the tuning got the louder it got too, which I'm not really sure why that happens. I would actually like it a little bit quieter as to not attract the cops attention. :naughty:
