Got around to street tuning my car and getting some numbers on my dyno. I got some logs of the runs with my SSI-4 too, I'll add them later when I get them off my laptop.

These runs were at 14psi.

I ran out of time today so I didn't get to mess with turning the boost up a little more. I can do maybe another 1psi before I start coming too close to fuel cut. I'd really like to get an EBC, but I need other stuff first.

Nice. I have a 2jz NA-t with 12cm HX35 and megasquirt fuel and spark going into my mk2.
Will be running similar hardparts (2.5 IC piping, full 3" exhaust, good sized FMIC, and custom FFIM)

Glad to see someone else went with a holset on a jz.

I had the hx on this before but even with the twin scroll it spooled too late for me. Would be fine on a 3.0L though.

Not bad not bad, you must be on stock cams for the power to peak that soon, correct? I was a bit surprised to see the torque value higher than the HP, usually it's the other way around on 1j's.

Yeah, stock cams. I was surprised by the torque too. I expected to see about 20-30 less than the hp. Maybe the ignition advance from pulling between -10 to -18 with the AFC helped with that.

What is the AR size on the HX again?

How are the boost characteristics with HY35 vs HX35?

HY is .65a/r. (9cm) the HX is .89a/r (12cm). The HX has a larger turbine wheel too, I don't know the sizes offhand though.

The HY starts to build boost at 2900rpm, 14psi by about 3500. HX is about 600 rpm later on both (on an undivided manifold or a divided manifold with a shared wastegate like I have... it would be better on a fully divided setup).

I've read that the HY is similar to a GT3076R as far as spool and flow. I'd really like to try a GT3071R on mine, but I'd rather spend $1,500 on a 1JZ vvti motor to gain that extra low end power and faster/earlier spool. That might be what I end up doing if I keep this car much longer. I really don't know. I have about 5 different swaps floating around in my head at any given time, so anything could happen. The 10% better gas mileage of the 1JZ vvti looks nice though with premium gas at $4.25 and going up like it is.

Even though power fell off a little early, I'd say you have really nice useable powerband.

My fuel economy hasn't been that horrible since I've gone single, seems comparable to my Subaru, maybe around 23mpg mixed driving conditions.

It would be fine if your goals are under about 500whp. You wouldn't even need a 2-step/stutterbox to spool it.

If you want to run 10's though you'll need a bigger turbo. I don't think this one could go lower than 11's. I'm not a drag racing expert though, just guessing here.

There is also the .70ar BEP housing that doesn't have an internal wastegate for the hx35 (should have better spool with better flow). Ill come back to this thread when I have the numbers on my 1jz.

Yeah I was going to try that housing on my HX when I had it, but they were on backorder at the time.

I'm thinking about selling this whole motor and turbo setup this fall when I pull it out to paint the car. The VVTi JZ motors :yumyum: just keep nagging in the back of my mind with their impressive torque curve.

I had a vvti 1j running a he341 (same wheels as hy) and it did 342whp at 5400rpm when it hit fuel cut, completely untuned. did that as just a baseline. My gf's non vvti 1j sc did 285whp@6200rpms yesterday on 10psi pig rich with the same turbo. I wrecked the vvti car about a year ago and the engine will be running in my daily this month, so I can come back and add graphs when I get it all situated. Should be running 550s, emanage ultimate, all runs made on a dynojet dyno

OP, non vvti is so much cheaper to build, and tune. Seriously cheaper. cost me about 500 more to do just because of the manifold and unless you're on standalone you might not get the best out of it.
