for most folks, the 2J is the better deal.. in the supra, the difference shows in stop and go traffic. the 1J needs to be pushed more to get the car up to speed, and I have the 3.91 diff. I would imagine it would be worse with the 3.73.

one thing that may be brought to the table here is the VVT-i series of the 1J and 2J.. Jose as Kaizen seems to get great results out of these time and again, but I've always felt there's a lack of information for DIY projects. that, and they're more expensive regardless (still, if you can afford one, maybe it would be a great upgrade).

indeed, the N/A VVTi 2J's rods are indeed weaker.. however, the 1J/2JZGTE VVTi motors use rods just as stout as those of the older non-VVTi GTE counterparts.

regardless, I didn't clarify that I was referring to the GTE series.
