Ok so not really a race between the two since the mk3 would walk over the 180sx but a discussion on both cars and their merits.
Last fall I came upon a 1991 180sx with a blown motor and 93k on the chassis for a price I could not refuse I picked up an sr20det for 1k and put about 700 in mods and holy shit this car is a blast I dont remember either of my mk3's being this much fun and the handling dynamics of this little car blows me a way,the weight, steering angles, reving to 7k and 250hp with 2700lb car. Both my Supras were fully upgraded one running 12.1@124 and the one I just sold running 12.5@110 Now Im considering selling my 12.1 Supra thats been modded to the max for the factory ECU. Just wanted to know what everyone thought of the Nissan I know they have been played out with the drift kids, Until owning one I did not understand the hype.

I guess you're a big fan of cutting bumpers and huge wings..:D

The S chassis is a blast, I used to have a 93 240sx, and while it was slow as shit, it could take a corner like no other..!

Why not transplant your 7m and slap it in your 180sx. I know it'll throw of the weight distribution, but it would be a beast. Sell the MKIII chassis, or part it out. Sell the sr20det. Or are you planning on taking that sr20det to the max?

i know exactly what you mean. as much as i love the look and feel of driving a nice mk3 around its hard for me to justify modding a heavy car thats has such huge body roll issues. I buddy of mine has a sr s13 and it definitly one of the more more fun cars iv driven right with fc rx7s and miatas (as gay as that sounds).

Nothing wrong with the S-chassis cars, I just find it funny how much people tend to have to 'upgrade' on them to handle moderate power levels. Most of these 'upgrades' are more or less stock on our cars, which certainly contributes to the weight... I had an 89 XE 240sx for a while, loved the car, was not a fan of how often it would oversteer with no intent on the part of the driver. In that respect the Supras, RX7's and Miatas have the 240 pretty well licked, if you ask me.

That said, less weight is never a bad thing, as long as it's a balanced car. ;)

i agree that the rx7 and miatas are definitly better chassis. but as far as over the supra i think its still more fun to drive. not tryin to hate on the supra or anything. for me it take at least a 1:10 power to weight ratio for me to really have alot of fun with a car. its just very easy to do with a sr20 s13 and i think thats why everyone does them. granted 350whp isnt all that hard with a supra but then your left with a boat of a car still. but supra is a much much nicer car to drive as far as interior goes. I guess they both have there merits

Indeed. 10:1 seems to be that point where a car becomes interesting enough to keep a smile on the face. :)

Part of the reason I'm looking into building a 7 replica in a few years. 1300lbs doesn't need much motivation... Just gotta take each car for what it was designed to be. The Supra wasn't designed with sport in mind, it was designed with touring in mind. Road trips, you know? And I for one, cannot think of a better car overall for the price for road trips, than a Supra.

ARE YOU KIDDING the SR motor is superior in everyway! Im in the middle of building one for my buddy dollar for dollar the sr will win everytime! from the full aluminum block forged crank and forged crank girdle its an awesome engine the block stripped weighs maybe 70 lbs
heres a vid from today basic mods and she ran a 13.7@100mph boost was 12 lbs and full interior

lol @ bear in a car at the circus.
The SR being superior in every way is a pretty big claim. Seen a few that didn't hold much power at all with stock internals, i do agree it is a great little motor though with plenty of available bolt on's.

i'm 6'2 probably won't be able to fit in there...

i noticed to in 240's look's like you might be throwing elbows with your passenger

but i say keep the nissan for dd and keep the supra, a supra is a supra 240's all over the place like civics..

I'm one of the S-Chassis fanbois. lol not really. But I do feel most comfortable in them around the track, both drift and grip.
I'm not much of a fan of the 13 suspension, simply because it's a little more sloppy than the 14/15, but even that could be fixed with some offset subframe mounts and a 14/15 subframe.
I don't have much of an opinion on the det though, both my 14s have been n/a. even the rb that's going in is staying n/a.
I wouldn't say you should get rid of the supra, but I will say you should hold on to the 13.

TRAITOR!! How dare you come in here and speak that Nissan garbage. Somebody ban him!
I don't know jack about sr20det's, so I can't comment on the dollar for dollar aspect of upgrading. I just figured since you already have an engine that can propel a MKIII supra (a much heavier car) down the strip at 124mph, It would make a rocket out of your 180sx. Minimal investment at that.

HAHAHAa I knew I would rustle a few feathers Ive built a few great 7Ms after seeing the internals of both engines the SR's are superior putting the 7m in the small s13 chassis would wreck everything thats great about the cars handling dynamics Ive owned my Supra since 1996 had my share of problems but understand the shortcomings of the 7M and moved past them Ive made great power from them but you dont need 500hp in a light chassis to propel it to do the same #s Ok maybe its not superior in the quest for MAXIMUM power Duane has proven that and no you dont see many 500HP sr20det's but when you compare the weight to HP ratios its a great little motor also if you added a coupe more cylinders it would be superior I guess thats were the RB's come into play having an engine that revs to over 7k from the factory makes for a fun drive!
DONT BAN ME IM JUST HAVIN FUN!

The Supra does have its excusivity and you dont see them very often in these parts I do like that I live far up north and there are very few you see especially at the track when I ran the 12.1@124 mph it was pretty sweet hearing from my brother in the stands some of the comments that he heard from the spectators its not very fast compared to alot of the cars there but it was the fastest street car there

i heard rb's have weak bottom ends and then need to be built before upgrading

props to you i haven't taken my supra to track yet but my buddy just ran 11.8 in his 7m and i remember when his car was running 12.4 and he would destroy me on the freeway lol..

i like s13 coupe with siliva conversion's those are sick
