13.9 sec mkiii lexus afm with 440 engine did not blow???

This maybe the only case like this. Let me know if anyone has any similar.
I hve a 89 mkiii turbo. Stock ct-26 hks metal head gasket arp head bolts
torqued to 75. Lexus afm for fuel cut without 550 injectors. still have 440.
3 1/2 INCH DOWN PIPE with no cat full 3 1/2 inch exhaust. apexi
cold air blitz blow off valve. manual boost controller turned boost to 14.5
psi. Did not expierence spark knock or pinging ran car hard shifted at 6k rpms
ran 13.96 at 102 mph at atlanta speedway sat july 22. Most say i will blow the engine without 550 injectors. I must have been lucky.

sounds pretty risky to me, especially if you didnt tune, use 550's, or upgraded fuel delivery. actually i change my accusation from risky to stupid. Even if you didnt "blow the engine" you could be doing some damage in there. Probably softening up the top of the pistons. Keep it up and your pistons will be see thru :). Oh and as for that metal headgasket, dont count on it lasting long with that setup.

I have run stock injectors with stock AFm but with a FCD and stock 440's and ran 13.0@113.65 didn't blow up ;)

My buddy Tom has DDP, but 57 trim, exhaust, Lexus AFM but 440's, 13 PSI IIRC and I ran his car to a 13.3@ 107 :) He had less mods than mine and was heavier to!

the guys at the shop shot the vid it will be ready soon. iI do how ever have the venom 550's on the way. gonna upgrade the pump too. it's a daily driver drove it hard only that 1st time. stupid move oh yes i know

However, just to be safe, and this goes to the thread starter, I wouldnt push it TOO hard until you get more fuel...

Believe it or not, contrary to popular belief, using a lexus AFM on a stock fuel system doesnt hurt the engine whatsoever. I ran my 89' turbo with nothing but 3" exhaust, cold air, and the lexus AFM for over a year and saw nothing but good results. The engine has 160000 miles now and doesnt show any sign that its going to blow up. What most people dont understand is that the ECU shouldnt really allow it to run extremely lean; it just doesnt use as much air as it would if you had the fuel to keep up.

^Did you monitor your Vf's, Did you run a wideband? Do you know if your ECU was pulling timing?


Its more than just running it and everything being "Ok".

OK...what about those Supras that produce sub 10:1 a/f fueling with standard injectors , standard fuel pump, with standard fuel pressure and a standard AFM at boost levels before fuel cut kicks in?

What about the 80-90% injector duty cycles reported with S-AFCII's and E-manage on the injectors at WOT near 6000 rpm?

Do you really need 550cc when Supras with the stock turbo run this rich as it is?
