Crank but no startup, throwing code 12

1989 Turbo 5spd California Car. Well, folks, I'm having a bit of a problem. Last monday, I had a problem with my electrical system -- cliffs notes version of this being that I replaced my grounding straps before tracking it down to being a little wire connected to the positive battery...

Car up and dies (no lights, hazards, any electrical)

Meanwhile, back at the ranch... I put back on the original ground (with the new battery connector I obtained previously) and got the same results. I thought I may've attached my new grounding cable to a point where it wasn't grounding properly with the block, and the plugs weren't firing. I...

Car up and dies (no lights, hazards, any electrical)

Righto, I just got fed up and went ahead and replaced all my grounds, but found that there was a little positive cable that was shorting as well, and keeping my car from starting, presume that was the ECU pos wire. Fixed that, and now electrical works fine, car cranks fine, but doesn't start...

Car up and dies (no lights, hazards, any electrical)

In my agitation this morning, I accidentially posted this to the moderated tech tips thread I was reading earlier. Forgive me for I know not what I do :P 1989 Turbo, 7MGTE, no mods. California car, dry climate. In the last couple of days, my car has been developing a problem that has...

    Smog Failure/O2 Sensor Question

    1) Apparently not, it just doesn't appear in the parts catalogues available at our fine chains of automotive supply shops, so thought it was rather odd. 2) How exactly how would I go about mounting it? are there guidelines and such anywhere? I didn't really find anything in the TSRM 3) I...

    Smog Failure/O2 Sensor Question

Wher'bouts in Sacramento do you live, and do you have any recommendations on smog places to take it to? :P I'll probably have a poke around under the hood this weekend. I've been outta town the last couple weeks, so haven't had a chance to examine why I can't get the damn thing to pass smog :P...

    Smog Failure/O2 Sensor Question

as far as I know, I got the turbo sensor. Autozone/Kragen lists a one-wire sensor for the supra turbo, and no three wire sensors to be listed there. I'm kind of baffled as to why I have some sort of peculiar O2 sensor, and am unsure if it's failed or not. My car did sit mostly unstarted...

    Smog Failure/O2 Sensor Question

Hey guys, My '89 MkIII has decided to fail the smog test. After I ran it and got the fail, I noticed that it was running rather rich -- smelly exhaust. First thing I thought to check was my O2 sensor, so I looked it up and went and grabbed one listed as appropriate for my year (Bosch 1-wire...

    which oil to use??

Darn! where the hell do you live? I want to buy you a beer (or several) and extract knowlege from you :P Even if doing a bypass filter system for my car is useless for the time being, it's good knowlege to have for future, and for when the time comes to rebuild my engine, or when I start on...

    which oil to use??

How exactly do you employ depth filtration on cars? I know the term from living off the main water grid, and using well water -- we use depth filters on the big main line from the pump to the pressure tank to get all the crunk out of our water. I hope I'm not bothering you with all of these...

    which oil to use??

Good to know about berryman's, I'l avoid ever putting it in my car. I'll look into Auto-RX, if I can find it here in town (if you've been to Powell River, you know how hard it is to find anything special without getting on a boat -- beautiful place, just isolated *grin*) I wonder how much oil...

    which oil to use??

I wondered if those high mileage oils were just snake oil (pardon the pun) but I guess not. You mentioned seal conditioner, what do you think about Berryman's B12 additive, or other conditioner that causes seals to swell, stoppering some leaks (or so the bottle says)? Are there any other...

    which oil to use??

Sooo, this is probably played out, but what would you say about switching to a group III/IV/V oil from a group II (I think -- had Valvoline change my oil last time, they used their basic 5w30) on an engine with 210,000 miles? I've only owned the car for the last 2000 miles or so, and it tends to...

    Canadian Roll Call

Update! My Supra's been in Canada since last august, stored during the crappy weather months. I'm just getting her on the road now for PacNW Suprafest :P was a beautiful drive up the 5, left Panorama City (near Van Nuys) at 11:00PM friday night, got into Surrey at 11:00PM Saturday night :P CCC

Can I ask a favour of someone from the US coming to PacNW Suprafest?

Now, I don't know if anyone's willing to do this...but... Can someone from the US grab me an oxygen sensor, and sell it to me at SupraFest? I know that a generic bosch with toyota plug is ~$40 in the states -- everyone up here in BC wants $290 for generic, and $330 for toyota compatable :P...

    oil pressure gauge question

I can think of several cars offhand that used a mechanical oil pressure gauge from factory, the family at the top of my head is the 1980s and older mercedes-benz diesels. I don't think it'd be horribly dangerous if you used a high quality oil pressure gauge, and not cheap-arsed crap. CCC

    Sawblades... simple Q

Sawblades for the win! As for winter -- I'd say buy another car, being nose-heavy and RWD, our cars are damn near totally useless in temperatures below 0*C. Why risk the rust, and why risk your car slooooooooowly sliding into a ditch? I have a truck for driving in weather I wouldn't drive the...

    Dash Disassembly -- What'm I missing?

Okay, so I'm trying to pull off the trim from around the stereo/climate control/shifter. I've removed: 1 screw from left of shifter two screws from behind ashtray I can't find any more screws to remove. I then apply firm, steady pressure while muttering obsceneties under my breath...
