Engine bay with Megasquirt 2. AZR block off plates, Beech alternator relocation bracket, and Sikky thermal shield manifold gasket. I can rest my hand on the intake manifold even after a long drive

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Drove out to Lodi the other weekend to work on my cousin's 1968 Cougar. Car ran perfect, and was a pleasure to drive. 170 miles round trip

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Been working with the Megasquirt and getting a good tune dialed in. Running really well, feels fast. A little cold blooded on startup, need to use some throttle to start the engine. I think that's because my IAC air tube is too small. I'll fix someday. Other than that, it's hard to tell the...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Upgraded the fuel system. The Walboro under the car was getting loud after only 45 mins of driving. Even being under the tank, I think it was working too hard. I went back to a surge tank setup like I originally had. But this time everything is under the car so I don't lose trunk space and keep...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Thanks guys. Yeah, the car is pretty fast actually. Some day I'll take it to the drag strip and see how it does. I'm actually running a 57 trim CT26 now. Car RIPS. Traction is a problem with the open diff. Still a long way to go. Lots of things to clean up and improve, make permanent etc. Who...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Been a while since I updated, just in case anyone is still out there. Still working on cleaning up the engine bay. Wrinkle finish black helps make pipes and things look maybe passable as factoryish. Also recirculated the BOV. Even with the anti-stall valve, I just couldn't live with the...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Success!!! Fresh oil in, brakes fixed, and went for a drive. First, the brake problem was just free-play adjustment at the booster. I cranked down on the actuator rod to shorten it, and problem solved. The transmission was still noisy, but seemed to get quieter as I drove. Not sure...

    What transmission have I got?

After some research, I think I've got a W58 from a MKII Supra Not sure how to tell a W55 from a W58, other than counting the gear revolutions by hand. Hopefully today I'll be able to put fresh oil in and see if the trans is quieter.

Thanks for the advice. I just put this remanufactured booster in a few weeks ago. I hope it's not bad. Finding things that fit/work on this old car isn't easy.

    What transmission have I got?

Whines all the time. Didn't get to drive far because of other problems, but much louder than the old transmission I pulled. All gears. That one was only loud in 5th gear. And 5th gear was really loud The two transmissions clearly are almost identical. Reading I've done suggests early W58s had...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Not having 5th gear relegates a car to a local-only around town car. 5th gear in my car was super loud, so I never drove far. Never mind the constant little problems, the transmission has been the big issue. Finding a W58 or R154 transmission is difficult, never mind an affordable one. Finally...

    What transmission have I got?

Was sold to me as a W58. However, once I pulled my old box, I realized there are a few differences. The big difference is the shifter location. The top box is a MKIII Supra W58 that just came out of my car, to bottom box is the replacement I bought. Anyone know why the difference in...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Finally drove the car again today! Has been about a month and a half since the car stranded me and was towed home. Wiring, carpets, patched a flat tire, and a few other details all done at last. Turns out the problem was in fact the Cam Position Sensor wiring. I swapped the CPS, and put a...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Still working on the interior. Printed out new labels for the boost controller, and still didn't manage to put them on straight. I'm sure a few of you noticed how ratty the carpets I put in last summer looked. I hadn't ordered enough carpet for the whole car, and ran out when doing the...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Continuing with the wiring clean-up project. When I first got this car running, I ran extra wire lengths and used crimp connectors for quick working. Crimp connectors work well in the short term, but I don't want to leave them in. I've read crimp connectors can cause reliability issues and...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

Ok so now the car won't run. Stranded me the other day with several odd symptoms. First the car had the severe hesitation come back, then just died. Kept blowing the main power fuse. After some time, the car just fired up again. Didn't last long, because I ended up getting towed home. The...
