I haven't fixed it yet. The car has been sitting in my garage. I tested a ton of different things, just haven't had the time to find the problem. One of the next things I am going to try is soak the cold start injector to clean it up and eliminate that as a potential problem. Did a boost...
Damn, I checked and it looks like the guy who installed my cps possibly stripped the bolt hole that holds down the CPS. Not only that, I lost the damn bolt as I dropped it when I was taking it out with my fingers. My question is now, should I use a helicoil or a time-sert. I have used a...
No, I haven't found the issue yet, I am going out there now to look a the CPS. I know a while back I unloosened the bolt to do the timing, just want to make sure it is tight. If I were you I would maybe check the ignitor. You don't have a spare on hand do you? No start could definitely point...
Well, I checked cyl 5 and 6 with the light seemed okay now, maybe they were touching last night. Cyl 1 still off. I decided for preventative maintenance that I should do the ground rewire on the ignitor. I hooked a piece of wire to the screw with an end ring and attached the other end to the...
Moy, didn't check it before I started it, but the battery stays at a constant 13.87 volts, I don't think it has anything to do with the alternator.
3p, good question, I will verify this tonight. However, I still need to verify that the timing light is truly showing inconsistencies on 5 and...
I actually see the timing mark in two places, so it is impossible right now to set the timing correctly. Now, before I changed the plug wires I connected the timing light to the number 1 plug wire and it was flashing intermittently, meaning there is some type of electrical problem going on. I...
It definitely doesn't get better then that LOL
I will try and test the wires again tonight and then move onto the ignitor tests in the tsrm. I will post results.
Okay, popped in the plugs, didn't seem to change, still miss on cyl 1. However, I decided to put the timing light on 5 and 6 and they are flashing intermittently too, which they were not doing before. I didn't test any of the other wires. Now, I am really confused. I am done for tonight...
Wires are in order.
Sorry guys, was waiting on plug wires, took almost 3 weeks to get them, just got them in a few minutes ago. I changed the number 1 plug wire and it is still doing the same thing. Right now, I have no idea what to else to check. All I can say is the car runs good for a...
Well, turned the lights off, didn't see any sparks from the wires. Also, swapped the battery, was hopeful as it was running good, but then took it for a drive and got to the first light and it started idling bad. I have some wires coming in, I will try swapping those to see what happens...
The only two things that come to mind are one, the wire is bad and intermittently working or the battery getting a jolt when it is rev hard which makes it run right for a little while.
I am going to swap in my 300zx battery tonight and see how it does with that one installed.
A couple of the...
Hmmmm...Took it for a drive, was idling great then I got a to a light and it was missing slightly again. I revved the car pretty hard and it started idling better. It is almost like some wire needs to heat up or something and revving the car hard to 4-5k rpm makes it idle fine there after...
Very interesting. I started the car again, threw the timing light on cylinder 1, it was flashing randomly. I then put it on cylinder 5 and 6 and I had a constant light. I started jiggling some of the wires and threw the light back on cylinder 1 and I didn't get any intermittent flashes from...
There doesn't seem to be a change when I have the jumper cables on or not. I tried another coil pack, made no difference. I did pull the plug as it was running to see if I heard a change in engine speed and all seemed to make a change except cylinders 3 and 2, which are on two different coils...
Jdub, I am going to test this right now. I will try with the cables connected to the battery and then try connecting with the cables connecting straight to my Z battery.
Yeah, I have set the timing and it did advance after removing the jumper. Jdub, I will try to test this alternator and battery. I think the battery is definitely one problem as I have to keep jumping it every other day I go out there, but that should cause what I am seeing right? As the...
