It hasnt been done a lot because a typical mk3 owner is on the stock manifold for one reason, to save money. But yeah its been done in the subaru, evo, srt4 etc world for ages and has insanely good results. Now i cannot do it myself because i dont have a stock manifold anyway

^ im sorry what do you mean? im saying the wastegate is directly on the manifold and not on the turbo at all, and the wastegate on the turbo is welded shut. as long as its in the center close to the turbo or in a place on similiar external gate manifolds i dont see a problem. and this HAS...

yeah it cant be off the pipe, it has to be off the manifold or the housing.

seen this done with evos. IMO it would be easier to just weld the internal gate shut, and fab the wastegate onto the stock manifold.
