The Tesla has a 2-speed transmission... and I know the electric motor in the prius is inline with the transmission as well. I don't think motors can't be connected to transmissions, I think it's that in most apps, they don't need to. I think a diesel/electric hybrid with the six-stroke design...

yeah I'm gonna get the alternator checked before I do something rash like buy a new one. She's got a couple electrical gremlins I need to hunt down anyway. And I got burnt to hell even with just the Wal-mart thing. It rules... only half my face got burnt :-(

Boooo... six-stroke for the win! Not so hot for performance, but real-world applicable and super efficient.
