    Im pretty sure that the older models where like the one pictured and the newer models have the s shape like your talking about on yours, i know my 89 is like what your describing and that my brothers 87 is like the one in the picture.

    ^agreed, spend more time cleaning the block thats left over gasket, note that the pitting is only in place where the gasket touches the block theres no pitting around the places it does not touch like the coolant passages and around the bolt holes.

    So your talking about the blower motor? the fan in the HVAC box right, if so check your blower motor resistor and make sure it is'nt burned up, and check for power and ground at the conector for the blower motor. Do you have a test light? that will make for quick and easy diag for power and ground.
