RHD conversion???

Has anybody ever done or seen an MK3 undergo a RHD conversion?

A guy is offering his complete setup for a set of wheels. The dash, steering rack, steering column... pretty much everything. I guess a couple things are not included, but not very important.

Would I be way in over my head with this, or would it be possible.. just time consuming. I have all the big expensive parts, the steering components and the dash pieces. There might be little things to buy still.

But as far as moving over the brake booster, the pedals and the clutch master cylinder. Things like that and the A/C. I wonder if I could move over the seat too, so i still get the electronic seat. I guess i would have to get a JDM throttle cable too for my 2JZ.


I'm really thinking about doing this, i need some input.

firewall, brakes need re-routing, clutch re-routing....too much to list..it might just be better if you found a front clip a used that. or, atleast get detailed pics of a front clip and see what you would have to move and make a list frome there.

I haven't seen any MK3 undergo a RHD conversion, but I do remember a pink MK3 that had a RHD conversion. It was on Supramania too!

I have been around a few 240SX that have undergone a RHD conversion and after seeing it done, doesn't seem very difficult if you know how to weld. The main thing is to have a firewall from a RHD clip. I was actually thinking of doing a RHD conversion myself, the main two reasons being that 1) it's unique over in the U.S. and 2) I like to have digital gauges. My friends that does RHD conversions on their car and other people cars tells me I should do it, but my reply was I don't have that type of money to accept that type of work yet. College degree first I suppose.

I would say you keep your seats in their locations because if you were to swap them, you might have some trouble when closing the doors. And how would you be able to reach the switch to adjust the seats if you did switch them? It's best to keep the seats the way they are unless you can find a RHD driver electronic power seat.

As far as the brake booster, pedals, and clutch master cylinder, if you have the RHD firewall those are bolt on items. I'm not sure if the guy is offering you everything you need to do the conversion (such as a front clip) or if it's just major components without a firewall.

What you just listed is not even 1/5 the parts you'll need. Even a half cut won't get you half, unless you do half ass work.

No mention of how dangerous a RHD car is in a LHD environment? For a show/track car, I say if you have the money. go for it. For a DD or such, There are enough idiots with cell phones clogging the road without adding complications to the mix.

RHD is hard to come by in the states, so driving one will turn a helluva lot more heads than a LHD supra

A few years ago the construction company I worked for bought a Grove 50 ton Crane from Europe which was right hand drive. After the experience of driving it a few hundred miles, I would advise anyone who thinks that a right hand drive vehicle might be fun.... find someone who has one and take it for a test drive. It is the most awkward , every part in it backwards ,piece of a waste of a nice car you could ever imagine. You couldnt give me one if I had to drive it.

Talking from experience, I had a RHD car and drive it occasionally now. (my brother now owns it) It is fun to drive and not hard to drive on the road as people think. RHD cars here in Canada are totally legal.

from what i hear it really isn;t. its just that instead of shifting away from you like you would on a lhd, you are bringing it closer to you. i heard you get faster shifts maybe?????
