Figured I'd just post this up to help out anyone who might search on this in the future.
My power door locks stopped working, but only when I hit the electric button to lock them. Unlock worked fine and so did manually flipping them. They started to quit only on hot days and then they...
Has anyone used any of the non-OEM 1jz/2jz cam sensors like the ones on ebay and at the parts stores? All the aftermarket sensors seem to be made in China, probably all by the same factory. My cam sensors are leaking oil like mad and I think one of them might be starting to quit electronically...
It never really bothered me till someone else pointed it out... but when I cold start my car the thing leaps right up to 2,000rpm and idles there till it warms up to closed loop mode (I know this cause I put a closed loop indicator light in the dash). Then it drops to a 750rpm idle, and idles...
The original JDM starter on my 1JZ MKIII died last fall and I rebuilt my old 7M starter and put it on (new solenoid contacts, checked the comm and brushes, cleaned and regreased gear drive) and even though the bendix and slide bushings are clean and have fresh light weight synthetic grease on...
I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to securely mount a full size battery in the hatch area, as low and forward as possible.
Anyone have any pics of their setup? I'm just looking for ideas.
I have a really annoying clunk.... sounds like batteries shaking around in an aluminum flashlight. It seems to be in the dash above the radio somewhere. Happens on just about any bump I hit, but it doesn't happen every day... only every few days. Is there any common thing that rattles back...
See post 18 and 19 for a better and possibly cheaper solution to this.
I found out that the u-joints in our steering column and steering shaft are the same dimensions as the u-joints used for the driveshaft on a Kawasaki KLF300 Bayou 300 4x4 (years 89-04). Dimensions are 16mm cap OD, 40MM...
Trying to decide on a color for a full repaint (bay, jambs and all). I was leaning toward white, black, or titanium... but I think instead I'd like to go with something that will be a little bit flashy without being too bright (like red or yellow would be).
My kid was playing with his matchbox...
I was reading this:

....While searching for information about why older rack and pinion cars seem to have crappy steering feel and precision compared to new cars. So if Ford was updating the...
Still not happy with the steering in my car. I've determined that what my car is doing is probably not related to any worn suspension parts, or the fact that I've lowered the car, or the steering damper being removed. I think it's a classic case of tramlining. I can hold the steering wheel...
Wasn't this the first month of export production?
The car was pretty well rusted out. It was a hardtop non-turbo W58 with pretty much no options added.
My speedometer cable is broken, I hit a tree limb on the road and it pushed the sheathing up against my downpipe, which cooked the grease and seized the cable and well... *snap*.
My cable is sort of in the way of my downpipe anyway, so I was thinking about doing a conversion to an electronic...
Only one side was clogged on my car... guess what clogged it? The stupid ass rubber flaps Toyota put on the back of those air vents in the door jamb dry rotted and fell off, and clogged the drain holes enough that it let mud/dirt finish clogging them. I got lucky and there's barely any rust...
Seems that lately some of the most infamous ugly Supras have been popping up in various threads. I wanted to see more... so I searched and couldn't find any existing "Ugly Supra Thread". So here's one.
This is for Supras (any year) that have been modified with questionable results... not for...
I've been using a pyrometer to figure out my optimal pressures and they seem to be 30psi front and 28psi rear. This is with 255/40R17 tires.
What pressures is everyone else running? I'm just wondering how many others are running different pressure from the OE pressure sticker in the glovebox.
It always bothered me that the BOV is open at idle/low throttle/decel, and I figured it might be sucking in some dirt, so I picked up an oiled foam UNI Filter air filter and put it on there. Makes me feel better knowing a stray pebble can't find it's way into the BOV too.
Other than the OEM clutch disc, what clutch disc don't squeal on engagement?
I've got a 6 puck metallic disc (copper/ceramic) right now, and I'm getting tired of the squeal.
It seems to be worse in the supra than in either of my old FWD cars, probably because of the extra weight of this car...
I found this while I was researching driveshafts for my car (I spun the bonded rear shaft). It seems like reliable info, they got their info from Inland Empire Driveline.
http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/techarticles/0608rc_driveshaft_tech/viewall.html
They tell you how to check the angles...
Anyone know if there's a non-telescopic non-tilt non-memory steering column from any other toyota that is a bolt in swap for our car? Like from a corolla or celica from the same era. It seems a lot of stuff from those two cars bolts right onto ours and is much lighter or simpler.
I don't care...
