Linc - chances are that you have a bad clutch master cylinder. Same thing happend to my MK-III. I bled the clutch but I would still loose pressure on the pedal after driving around for a couple of days. Try bleeding yours and see if the problem comes back. If it does, you need a new clutch...

If the paint hasn't chipped off you can try having paintless dent repair done. I've seen the work that they do and it's amazing. Can be pricey though.
